Leading evidence: 'Install wevo yellows' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill mounts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Semi- solid, or solid mounts are removed, thrown away, and replaced- else the engine has no warranty here.

Given what you just said about using oem mounts, would oem GT3 RS mounts work on a 996 C2 or would the computer respond the same as using stiffer non-oem mounts?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm planning to exchange the engine mounts on my stock '99 C2. I'm leaning toward a semi solid set up and am considering the OEM RS mounts (which my son has on his 964) as well as the Wevo mounts.
Does anyone here have experience with either the RS or the Wevo mounts?
Thanks!
Yes. There are a number of Wevo reviews here; I think I might have posted one when I dropped them into my car.
*edit* Here's my thread with add'l info:

I think they're awesome...

Does anyone have any real experience with this? Perhaps a dyno of before and after the mount installations?
JMHO, but there are no knock-sensor issues with using Wevo mounts or even Motorsport solid ones. Those sensors are piezoelectric microphones and tuned to pick up vibrations from the cylinder assemblies, only.
If someone is experiencing a power loss issue, there are plenty of places to look at besides this one that will yield the source of the problem,....

A middle of the road compromise would be the Function First V2 "improved" stock mounts. I installed them and I like them.

Can you elaborate some more about downsides of the semi-solid mounts?
I don't mean to force you to write if you already have a knowledge base written up/video somewhere that you can just link to.
I have the WEVO semi solid mounts on my AE 996. They are great. They def stiffened things up and you feel more feedback from the car, but I've never thought they were "rough". Car is almost 20 years old and the only rattle I've ever heard was from the factory coin holder in the center console. Exhaust (Mufflers and High Flow Cats), WEVO, Suspension and 997 SSK have been my favorite mods so far in that order.
Harmonics have to go somewhere.
The DME was programmed with the stock engine mounts, and a known absorption rate. Reducing this absorption rate with a more firm mount means the knock sensors see more signals. With these, some are confused with detonation, and the result is retarded ignition timing, as the DME tries to protect the engine from what it **thinks** is detonation. Retarded ignition timing quotes to reduced engine power, decreased efficiency, and increased emissions, along with elevated exhaust gas temperatures.
This is next level first- hand information, Google will not show you this. The engine taught me this.
What are your thoughts on stiffening it up slightly, similar to the function-first design by putting
liquid urethane
in the lower half of the stock new engine mounts. I was thinking about filling new mounts with 60A
durometer liquid urethane
, which is much softer than 80A that function-first uses. Do you think this is an acceptable compromise?
There's no compromise. ANY stiffening isn't what the DME was programmed for, and will create some negative. I played around with this a ton.
We will ONLY use genuine replacement engine mounts. Semi- solid, or solid mounts are removed, thrown away, and replaced- else the engine has no warranty here.
What you want to do creates a question mark. I don't like question marks. Results may vary.
