Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Used 1/4" drive with two "wobble" extensions and a universal joint to put it back after the tank was in.

Also used a coat hanger with the end bent to guide the socket into the inside (between tank and fender) bolt.

when I had my WP done, indy also highly recommended a new t-stat and serpentine belt

I'm getting ready to replace the coolant tank and a connection hose on my 2002 C2 this weekend, I've got my manual, I have the time, I've done my research, just wanted to see if anyone that has already replaced their newer style tank and had to actually lower the engine to get the old tank out and the new one put in.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Manual says it has to be done but I've read a few posts where the coupe guys can get away with not having to drop it. That said, most are 99-00 with the older style tank.
Parts: Tank w/ new part number cap, Porsche brand coolant and hose #29
Tools: Uview Airlift setup and other other misc tools required
I couldn't get mine ('03) out w/o lowering the engine. I lowered the engine all the way until the engine touches the rear subframe bar. It's no big deal but you need to be careful where to jack the engine...at the strong point and with some wood spreading some load on the oil pan evenly as well.
I couldn't get mine out even lowering and pushing the engine towards the passenger side. I had to take the tank mount off. Used 1/4" drive with two "wobble" extensions and a universal joint to put it back after the tank was in.
Also used a coat hanger with the end bent to guide the socket into the inside (between tank and fender) bolt.
Don't forget to unclip the power steering lines from the fire wall mount clip, and watch the oxygen sensor wires when you lower the engine. Pull them out of the guides so that they have more slack.
Also take the level sensor out as soon as you can get your hand in there. It turns clockwise.
I cut the bottom barb off of the old one to get it out so that I could get to the mount bolts.
You will most likely also have to give it a STERN TALKING TO!! in order to "Git-er' done."
Well I'm done for the day, it was insane trying to get that tank out. I finally had to cut the connector off to get the original out. The new one is mostly in, I'm trying to get it to line up with the bracket up top but I've cleared the hard part. I don't think its possible to do it with out lowering the engine. Hopefully I can button it up and flush the system tomorrow. Thanks for the tips.
Forgot to add, for those that will do this in the future, remove the entire airbox. Its one bolt and will allow you to unclip the O2 sensors on the right side of the engine. You will also have to unclip or at least remove the routing clips for the left side as well. Hopefully mine are OK but I didn't catch it till after I had lowered it all the way.
I found that you can drop the tank off of the upper mount. After that slide the tank as far back as you can. Using a 10mm socket and a universal, unbolt the upper mount and take it out. By removing it you gain enough room to remove the tank. I had already lowered the engine so I don't know if I had to or not.
Best of luck, this is definitely a PITA job!
