My wife is an IT person and uses the internet for her business, so we installed a backup generator with an automatic transfer station. However, it worked like a charm until the mice did some urination on the circuit board.

As for the Porsche, I use these oil-soaked ***** in the trunk and engine area as winter pretty much snows us in and the amount of salt used on the roads creates a lot of issues.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Putting the car away soon for 4-5 months. Environment: attached, unheated garage. The lowest temp in the garage over the winter will probably be 25.
What I plan to do:
inflate tires to 50 PSI (per manual)
leave battery in car w/ a tender on it
mouse traps around car
irish spring soap in the interior
moth ***** in frunk & engine compartment
gas stabilizer in fuel
Questions:
those that use moth ***** - how do you deploy them? open baggie? individual *****? how many?
windows up or down?
frunk & hood: open or closed?
Thanks.
My winter storage tip: Put your 996 on a closed trailer van and ship to Florida or other warm place for another 3 months of miles of smiles! /X3

Barn Cat. I'm grooming a cat as we speak. I mothed balled up last year and when I got in car to drive, I heard the bugger running side to side in my dash.
Sock not hanging in tailpipe to block might help. Take out cabin filter, they love that spot. Maybe replace with glue pad.
Tucked the car in for the winter today, and I'm wondering - is there really any need for moth ***** in the frunk? With the lid closed, I don't see how they'd be able to get in there...
I can only dream! haha
plus the borders are closed still and Florida is out of Control with Covid Cases.
I was supposed to be in Vegas for work. O well maybe next year.
I have had good success with the electronic, Vector brand, rodent chaser. Put it next to the car. I have one at my motorhome and one at the car.
I use the Tomcat brand bait inside the dog proof plastic box. Couple of those near where the possibly of mice coming in might exist. Have used the Irish Spring but it seems only good for maybe 2 seasons. I have found older bars with teeth marks on them. I really don't like putting anything inside the vehicle unless forced to.
Also a trap or 2 in strategic places but have dogs so very careful with that.
I have found that peppermint oil serves as a good deterrent against mice.....Since our house is in the woods surrounded by state parkland, the power is much like the ocean, it goes out a lot. My wife is an IT person and uses the internet for her business, so we installed a backup generator with an automatic transfer station. However, it worked like a charm until the mice did some urination on the circuit board. We tried almost everything and finally solved the problem by using peppermint oil, and now soak cotton ***** with the oil and distribute them around the inside area of the entire generator. I also use the oil on the passenger air filter as the mice have crawled into the Jetta and the Nissan Frontier trucks as well. As for the Porsche, I use these oil-soaked ***** in the trunk and engine area as winter pretty much snows us in and the amount of salt used on the roads creates a lot of issues. Bottom line: I found peppermint oil to be a much more agreeable smell although I do use a lot of mothballs around the side door and garage door of the garage that holds the Porsche as well as mouse traps.
So here's the problem with traps. You are literally asking them to come in. Then they **** and make trails so the next mouse comes in (did you clean the trap in time....??), Now he's free to get closer. I say this as a homeowner in the middle of fields that was catching 10 mice a day in my basement. Put tons of poison outside the house, removed all inside traps (except glue) and 2 years later still no mice. Outside stuff still gets eaten so refills still happening, but the idea is to draw them away from where you don't want them.
Normally my routine, enjoy the car year around. Usually Ship my 991 TT Cab to Florida and enjoy it down there for 5 months while escaping New England Winters. But NOT this year. COVID has put a damper on our yearly trips to the Keys and the many 3 to 7 day exploration trips around Florida. Not trusting Hotel stays just yet plus the election may cause more upheaval amongst certain groups who do not take kindly to people in expensive cars or people who do not 100% share their beliefs.
Paranoid? Maybe, but I would rather err on the side of caution, plus my new Cayenne S has a great panoramic sunroof and is fun to drive. So, yes, though the 991 is staying put we are still heading South.
Well, living in the woods has certain drawbacks, such as our local black bear and all sorts of vermin in the winter, however, I do believe your thought on the other type of vermin is something to be concerned. I have seen people take their aggressions out on vehicles displaying orange man bumper stickers. Years ago I used to purchase toilets or rather beat-up old cars with front-wheel drive to serve my needs in the winter but purchased a couple of late-model Nissan Frontiers, sans political bumper stickers placed on the rather stout ARB bumpers, heavier sway bars, and other off-road defensive items including bed liner sprayed on to the frame rails as the amount of salt placed down on the roads during the winter months tends to feed the tin worms. However, I will be enjoying top-down driving during the fall and will drive right up until the first snow in which I will place the Porsche into the garage... the pump gas is bad enough with all of that mandated alcohol, and the winter blend really sucks. So I will avoid the, spit, spit dreaded winter Burmese Gas Worms as well as avoiding to feed the tin worms.......snark. Does anyone have any suggestions for filling the tank up for a few month's rest?
When I stored my 944 in a portable garage I had all sorts of problems with mice. Moth *****? They wear out and the mice ignore them. Dryer sheets? They wear out and the mice use them for nesting material (along with the insulation on wires in the engine bay) Electronic noise machines? Mice will ignore the frequency after a while and it may disturb other animals in the area. Peppermint oil on cotton *****? I did that once and instead of mice I got lots of ants in the engine bay. And then the mice returned as the smell wore away.
Also agree with a post above regarding traps. Don't bait them in with traps and also put moth ***** or peppermint oil in the same area. Mice will ignore bad smells to get the food in the trap.
Now I have a large garage to keep my vehicles in and so far have managed to keep the mice out (by shear luck no doubt).
