Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The author says you need to have your computer reprogrammed by a dealer if you change your seats a steering wheel to clear the error lights.

At the very least use high density FIA padding on the passenger facing sides of the tubes.

Reuse the buckle for the 3-point harness or use a resistor.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've spent the last two hours looking through threads... I can't find what I need. Can someone point me in the right direction? My seats are shot. Can I buy Sparcos and modify them so I don't loose my heaters and air bag sensors? Also, I want a nice big Sparco steering wheel. Anyone done this mod? And just for grins, I'm putting in a roll bar. Suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You would have to add seat heaters to the Sparcos.
It's not actually an airbag sensor, it is the buckle.
Reuse the buckle for the 3-point harness or use a resistor.
I have a MOMO Prototipo that I haven’t yet installed.
Get the Cup hub from Gert!

It comes with the airbag resistor.
Yep, roll bar!
I bought a used RSS rollbar from someone selling his 996 GT3.
I also got the harnesses...and should have gotten his Euro GT3 seats for an extra $600.
I'm now looking for some seats too.
Remove the rear seats and seat belts BEFORE you install the rollbar.
They're worthless afterwards and a pain to get out with the rollbar in place.
Maybe not the rear seats, but definitely the seat belts...ask me how I know!
Unless you have an intention of tracking your car and wearing a helmet more often than not, a roll bar is not a good decision. The last thing you want in an accident situation is your head coming in contact with a bolted in piece of heavy gauge metal.
Yep, I just didn’t have the cash at the time.
A rollbar is safe from hitting my head in an accident. If my head ends up that far back, I’m dead.
I have short legs(5’8”) so the rollbar is way behind my head.
A roll cage is a different situation.
As a guy who's peeled a lot of cars off armco, You'd be surprised how far back those seats will flex in a hard hit. Also if you roll or endo, your arms go places you didn't know existed.
At the very least use high density FIA padding on the passenger facing sides of the tubes.
Roll bar -
Yes Dassport, did a lot of home work, the bolt with a flange and sit right on top of sub frame in the front, in the back, they bolt to rear.strut towers and the cross bar doubles as a rear strut brace.
Also they are designed so there is no 45 degree bar in the front loop to block with rear view mirror vision. Had shop color match to car. Added Chrome Fire extinguisher I had to remove Bose speakers
Steering Wheel -
Yes GT3 flat bottom Techart style. Little bit smaller diameter, downside, it obstructs some of the Tach, so I added a progressive shift light (not in pic)
Seats -
No, when ever a set of Savannah GT3 seats come for sale they are $3500-$4500 for a set, out of my budget
RSS 930 Roll Bar bolts to rear towers and front seat belt mounts.
Sparco Seat mounted direct to a sparco seat base, no sliders. I'm 5/10 and pedal reach is perfect.
OMP wheel on an NRG hub and quick release. Slightly blocks tach, will be adding shift light. Short term solution is marking points on visible portion of the tach.
The wheels of progress are turning slow... I picked up a couple of OMP Seats. That took 3 weeks. The RSS roll bars are all taken, which is fine since the last ones sold for over $1800. I have a beautiful Sparco wheel and the Momo hub. I bought a roll bar kit from Summit Racing and I'm going to set it up like the Dassport. I'm fabricating brackets to attach to the seat belt bolts and making the rear cross brace a bolt together affair.
Now I need some honesty, please. As I'm installing the roll bar just for grins, I can get it powder coated red, black or matte black. My initial thought was bright red so it stands out, but is that gonna be cheesy??? Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings. Red, black or just don't even do it?
Mine came already powder coated black.
I'm the third owner of the rollbar. PO had a 996 GT3, the original owner had a 997 GT3.
I added a gray (VERY close to my Seal Gray interior) Porche decal to my rollbar.
I considered Red, but decided to try gray and I like it.
It is visible from the windshield, or when entering the car.
Subtle, but with a little flash.
I would have painted mine some obnoxious color if I wasn’t so impatient to install when I got. Probably orange or green but I have admittedly weird taste in car customization.
I'm doing the steering wheel last. I'll keep you posted. It's kinda painful removing a $3500 stock wheel with an air bag, but.... you know how it goes.
I could measure a Momo horn button if you have a Momo, but if you got a Sparco, perhaps pick up some cheap pair of vernier calipers.
Harbor Freight, Amazon, eBay?
I finally received the last piece of my puzzle yesterday. The Momo steering wheel adapter was really hard to track down. I finally found someone in France that had the genuine article in hand. When it arrived, it cleared up the question of how my horn button will fit. It came with a stamped sheet metal ring that is just the right size for most horn buttons. Now I have to track down the resistor that will trick the computer into thinking I still have an air bag... I'll be posting pix as I start putting it all together now that the weather is cooling down a bit.
If I'd know you were having problems finding an adapter, I would have steered(pun intended) you to Carnewal.
That's where I got mine.
They also include the resistor.
Somewhere I have the resistance value.
You can find resister at Mouser or Digikey or even on Amazon these days.
Thank yo so much! I have the book "101 Projects for Your Porsche" from Pelican. The author says you need to have your computer reprogrammed by a dealer if you change your seats a steering wheel to clear the error lights. You didn't seem to need that, or did you?
No programming needed for the steering wheel..
Just the resistor for the airbag.
The 996 seats don't have airbags, but the seat belt is part of the SRS system.
I have Planted brackets that allow for factory receptacles for the 3-point system.
I haven't replaced my seats...yet.
6'6" might be tight.
I'm 6'4" long torso. Seats with sliders were a no go. Used BK floor mounts and fit perfect now. BK mounts have three front holes for seat angle adjustment.
