So replacing the injectors solved the problem for me.

No, you've got it wrong - absolutely normal to turn key to "on" position, wait for oil level gauge countdown, check oil level then turn key to start position.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2003 C2 996 and after it hasn't been driven for a few days when I go to start it, it sputters like there isn't enough fuel pressure. If I immediately turn it off and restart it, it runs fine. This is the only time it does it. Is this normal? Do these cars normally lose pressure after a few days that it would act like that? I've replaced fuel pump and have injectors on the list to do. Car has 85,000 miles.
Thanks.
Do you turn the switch on and wait until the oil level diagnosis has completed before starting? If not, try that, as it gives time for the fuel pressure to build. Even doing that, my car sometimes stutters a little at first application of throttle after start but it clears right up and doesn't stall and doesn't repeat.
Not normal. U can go 2 weeks and my car fires on the first crank
I need to put a pressure tester on it. Check fuel pump, regulator and for leaking injectors. Most likely its the pump or regulator. They are not teribly expensive and easy to swap if u just want to throw parts at it
I have the non-return fuel system so from my understanding there is no external fuel pressure regulator but rather it is built into the pump. Like I said I've replaced the fuel pump. It does seem to work better if I turn the key and let the oil level diagnosis run and then start it as Jim suggested. But that doesn't seem normal to me. I've already purchased the injectors and since I have 85,000 miles it seems like that is a good point to replace them from what I've been reading lately.
It works better when waiting for the oil level gauge because u r letting the pump prime and pressurize the system. It is leaking down either from the regulator or an injector. The regulator is built into the sending unit. When u changed the pump was it the entire sender of just the pump?
I finally got around to replacing all of the injectors this weekend. I've read that preventatively it is being suggested at 75,000 miles now. Since I have about 85,000 miles I figured it was about time. I will have to wait after it sits for a few days to see if it solved my starting problem after it sits a few days. However, Holy (insert expletive of your choice) does it run better now!!!! It honestly feels like a new car. It runs extremely smooth all throughout the power range and it even feels like the tiptronic shifts better. It also feels like it has more power too.
Just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone is contemplating doing this. If you do it yourself I would recommend new since new Bosch injectors aren't really any more than having your currently ones cleaned and buying new o-rings.
No, you've got it wrong - absolutely normal to turn key to "on" position, wait for oil level gauge countdown, check oil level then turn key to start position. Maybe not normal for cars that don't have the electronic oil level meter, but definitely normal for the 996. The other thing that may not "seem normal" to you is that once the car starts, go ahead and drive off - don't let it sit and idle for any length of time (a minute or two at absolute most - ie. while adjusting your mirrors, plugging in your phone etc.). Yes, if your injectors are original to the car go ahead and change them.Good luck
After sitting for 5 days I went to start it. I just turned the key, didn't wait for the oil level check, and it started right up. No sputtering. So replacing the injectors solved the problem for me.
I always check my oil the morning after I have driven it. I find if I check it after it has been sitting a few days I get an artificially high level. I like to compare the level on the dipstick with the electronic oil level value too.
