Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion · Original poster

I know that you can retrofit a MY2000 3.4 engine into a 99 and have it use the throttle cable, but this seems to be a strange and expensive route to take.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just picked of a salvage C4 Cabrio that I will be parting out. Its a 5/99 build with 41k on the odometer. It was totaled in 2012 for flood damage, but has been on the road since then. While checking it over we noticed it has the electronic throttle body rather than a cable that the 99 should have. I know that you can retrofit a MY2000 3.4 engine into a 99 and have it use the throttle cable, but this seems to be a strange and expensive route to take. Curious to see if anyone has seen this before.

POST 2Original post

Looks to be the original engine to the car - M96.02. Since this is a C4 and not the C2 M96.01, then that may explain the e-gas on this configuration.

POST 3Original post

The sight of the state of the engine bay sent chills down my spine! That kind of neglect is not normal, and makes me question what else has been neglected (maintenance).

POST 5Original post

All C4's had e-gas as well as Motronic 7.2... no mystery here

POST 6Original post

Porsche introduced all 996 C2's with conventional cable throttles while all C4's were equipped with E-gas throttles. This was for the model year 98 in Europe and 99 in the US.

Omg really? Its just a bit of dirt

POST 8Original post

The fact that the engine is behind the rear wheels and fairly open to all the dirt and other crap that gets kicked up by them, makes for a pretty dirty engine bay... Just another thing for us OCD Porsche owners to obsess over... ** The spider/cob webs are a dead giveaway that the car has been sitting idle for a while though...
