Suspected cause
I'm sure I haven't told you anything you didn't know so this was probably a stupid post.

Suggestion
Best to have a friend drive on ahead and check for any bear traps, then radio back the all clear.

Generally the nicer it is means the worst the weather is that replaces the nice weather.

Even the type of vehicle changes the odds, Porsche, motorcycles, anything that is perceived as normally going to fast has higher odds than the family sedan of being stopped even if both are going the same speed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I replied the just passed (at least here in northern CA) CA storm was on my mind. It was a wet storm. Got its moisture from a stream, make that a river, an atmospheric river of moisture that starts out somewhere in the vicinity of the Hawaiian Islands. Said "river" can carry the equivalent of several times the largest land based river carries in water, just a huge amount of moisture.
I think you should expect more than 3" to 5". I wouldn't be surprised if you get twice that amount.
But as you noted Colorado -- heck the entire west -- needs the moisture so I hope you get all you want and need.
The weather models are confused by this storm. If it goes 50 miles south we get zero. Colorado is odd like that. I have seen it where 1/2 the town gets snow and nothing in the other half. The one thing that seems to be a for sure is the Mountains will be getting a good dose of snow.
Tim,
Did you finish painting your seat backs? Would love to see that picture!
Cheers,
-K
Here's mine w/ top down on the way home from work picking up my kiddo.
NICE! And I am going ot put the top down on the way home to! That's what heaters are for haha
No I did not. I figure I will do that this winter. I am not sure if I am going to go with body color or Silver. If I go body color I will probably do my center console in body color as well. Just not sure yet.
Tim you have one of the best looking 996's I have seen. Love the color and the wheels. I often hear people saying green Porsches are hard to sell etc. but I love them.
You Colorado cab owners shouldn't be using your Porsches in the winter, and with the tops down. Don't you guys know that you'll harm the interiors with the UV rays? Where's KK when you need him? I'm envious of your weather, nice pics.
Indeed. A friend and I took advantage of the nice weather and took the 911 on a milk run (literally) to the King Soopers in Aspen Park. Route: High Drive -> North Turkey Creek -> 73 on the way to the store, 73 -> Blue Creek -> Brook Forest -> 73 -> Little Cub Creek on the way home. It was a glorious day to be out. I was tempted to take car out & test out the snow tires, but it's clean and I'm too lazy to wash it next week.
BTW, Tim - I've said it before and I'll say it again - your car is one of my favorite 996s. The green/grey color scheme is fantastic.
Thanks guys! I have been looking for this color combo for YEARS! I have some body mods to do still. Will do a TA front bumper and GT2 spoiler. Plus color matched lower side skirts. And the hard top.
Yeah Sunday was cold and snowy. But it will be sunny and nice this week
Dennis, what saggy mounts? I think you may see the exhaust tips sitting a bit low. They didn't tuck them up as tight as I would have liked when they hacked the mufflers.
It was a nice day in eastern WA today, so I took the cab down through the Palouse farmland to the top of Steptoe Butte. Sunny, but a little brisk....
Steptoe Butte, WA
I took mine around Lake Mead here in Vegas. That area is now a national park policed by the feds, they hide and give out speeding tickets for 10mph or over and they are expensive. Nice ride but you take a risk at every turn. I don't ride my bike up there any more because of the police, actually park rangers. On the way back after leaving Boulder City you can get some high speed spots. Going towards Laughlin I rode my V8 Chopper at 152 mph for a moment. Lots of straight line highway out there where you can see for miles. My bike records the highest speed and the highest rpm on the Dakota digital, many people ask how fast it goes and I like to show em the numbers. I'm 72 years old so they say "you're crazy" I always tell em "thats what they say back at the home."
Tim what a stunning C4S Cab. I love the wheels and it looks to be the perfect height. I typically HATE cab's/convertibles of 90% of cars, but yours looks the part. I would even own a cab if it looked like yours.
A co-worker told me of the time he was in NV on 95 heading north from I-40 towards LV on his motorcycle. The road ahead was very clear -- in clear air one can see for miles out there -- and he opened his motorcycle up. At V-max he happened out of the corner of his eye to catch a glimpse of a sheriff's vehicle backed into a small space off the side of the road, in kind of hidden place. He managed see the decal/emblem on the side. He continued on and reached a spot in the road with a gas station and cafe. He stopped and went in to get a cup of coffee. A few minutes later in walked the deputy and headed over. The officer said "Better slow that thing down son." and that was that.
My point is while the road ahead may look clear it may not be. Best to have a friend drive on ahead and check for any bear traps, then radio back the all clear. Be sure to scan the skies, too, for the bear in the air. I've seen them on I-40 at least in CA between Needles and points west.
MACSTER, speeding is all about the odds. If you do it often the odds are higher than if you rarely do it. Its also the same with the speed, if you go 5 mph over the speed limit the odds are pretty slim that you will be stopped even if a cop is watching, go 30 mph over and the odds are the same cop will enjoy the chase. Even the type of vehicle changes the odds, Porsche, motorcycles, anything that is perceived as normally going to fast has higher odds than the family sedan of being stopped even if both are going the same speed. I'm sure I haven't told you anything you didn't know so this was probably a stupid post.
No pissing around the car let alone in the car lol
Thats why we have ice put in our urinals at bars. Gives us the joy of pissing in snow year round. Haha
Oh, more than once it has been brought home how conspicuous my Porsches are and as a result how I get pulled over.
The worst case was down on I-20 at night back when Texas has a strict 65mph night time speed limit. I was in the Boxster, with a hand held CB radio, a V1, and I knew miles before I got there a smokey (city kitty as it turned out) was in the middle. I pulled over into the slow lane ahead of some big rigs and a red car and slowed down to just under the limit. The driver in a red car behind my Boxster got impatient and zoomed around and passed my Boxster just as both cars crested the rise and became "visible" to the radar and the cop.
As I drove past the cop car and beyond I saw the lights come on and I was thinking I was going to get to see the driver of the red car pulled over.
However, instead of going after the red car the cop got in behind my Boxster and pulled me over. About this time I heard from one of the truck drivers over the CB radio: "He's pulling over the wrong 4-wheeler!".
Now I know you are not supposed to argue and I don't but this time I protested. I didn't push it but I really didn't want to deal with a spurious ticket in TX at that time. To his credit the cop sort of agreed he made a mistake in that he offered me a "warning". I took it (gladly) and went on down the road. I eventually caught up with the truck driver who made the observation about the cop pulling over the wrong 4-wheeler and we talked over the radio about the incident some and radar detectors and cars until it was time for me to stop for the night.
There was the time -- again in TX -- I got pulled over in the Turbo going 10mph over. (I left the hotel feeling sick and forgot to turn on the V1, yet assumed my 10mph pace.) Every vehicle on the road was going 10mph but of course the Porsche 911 Turbo with out of state plates gets pulled over. I asked for a warning and the cop insisted he had to ticket for 10mph. Thankfully TX has probation before adjudication and the ticket cost just $75 and no points after 6 months of "probation".
