Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So a few months ago I bought a convertible hard top for my C2 Cab. But the color is slightly different but I got it for pretty cheap and it is flawless. My car is midnight blue and I think the top is lapis blue. So my guy is going to repaint it but I'm kind of sitting on the fence if I should have him paint my center console and the horseshoe the same color as the outside. 1. What do you think? 2. Anyone has blue 996 with external color center console and horseshoe? If so, can you post pics? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

The answer to your question would definitely depend on what color your interior is, both the seats and vinyl parts. You note it as "grey" in your signature, but do you have any photos? My first thought is that painting the console midnight blue is too subtle to be "striking", and this might be a good thing if you want a more subtle look.

Everything interior is grey. The reason I'm tossing and turning about this is that you can see the age on my center console and horse with some tiny scuff marks and scratches.

POST 4Original post

I'm yet to see a 996 with a console painted body color that I don't like. In my opinion it always improves the otherwise blah and monochrome interior. While the console is out, it's a great time to install a 997 SSK and/or new cables.

****! Good call!!!

POST 6Original post

I enjoy being an enabler...... I like the 997 SSK, but the best shifter I have ever experienced in a Porsche was a 997S with a 2010 GT3 shifter (metal bushings) and new cables. That transmission at 100k was light, smooth, and positive, simply superb. I think the GT3 shifter is marginally more than the 997 SSK and also a direct bolt in.

POST 7Original post

Just wondering what is the logic of having a hardtop for you Cali boys? I've been curious but never really asked.

It's more looks than anything else. It looks different and it's a nice change in a season that one may not open the top as much. But we do have mountains too, so it's not all sunshine and sand. Of course we don't have Chicago weather here.

POST 9Original post

Factory paint to match exterior Midnight Blue Metallic. Hope this helps.

^^that looks great! Do the key surround as well.

POST 12Original post

I have the center console, the horse shoe, and dome light trim painted blue. I like it. I'm not sure how much if any more ill do. I think you need to keep within some limits. I like the pics above even though he has the doors, he has kept other parts gray, so I think it's still tastefull. I have seen folks go overboard and that's what my goal has been to avoid. To keep things interesting I'm starting to recover certain parts in leather and add blue stitching.

Here you go, i figured out how to delete some old files.

Awesome! Thank you! I think the fact that mine is a cab, having those pieces in body color will make the interior pop! BTW, where did you get those silver trims for the gauges?

POST 16Original post

I would agree that they may look nicer in a cab as you get much more sunlight. My car has a full tint job so the interior is even darker. Some days I hate the tint some days I like the privacy. After looking at the pictures posted above again, I am not sure if I like the painted horse shoe as much as I like it in grey with a blue dash strip. Its a bit more subtle. Just go slowly when painting the trim, sometimes less is better. At some point I will do the sport seats with blue seat backs, and stitching, to complete the interior. Also am considering blue seat belts, but again I have to try and not over-do it. The gauge rings were purchased off ebay a long time ago. They were one on my Boxster, but I removed them when I sold it as I couldn't find replacements easily. Back in 02 the gauge rings sold for $50.

My horseshoe does need to be painted as there is a big scuff on it. I really like what you've done but as you said when people go overboard it starts to loose it's subtle hint and is too much in your face.

In addition to what shows in my pics the seat belt outlets are also in the exterior color. This is the way the car came from the factory and at first I also thought the painted door finishers might be a tad too much. But in use the overall interior visual does tie together and works well. I just pulled the original invoice and it was $2,245.00 for the painted pieces. This is one of those things that I most likely would not have ordered from new but I am glad that the original owner had some extra cash to burn. I too have tinted glass and I have been torn as to whether I should leave it or have it removed. I don't like the fact that it is an aftermarket install and I like my cars to remain "as built" but it seems to look good given the car color. Road trip on a sunny summer day and I appreciate it, driving on a dark winter night and I sort of detest it. Changing gears a bit, anyone have any success having aftermarket tint removed, including the rear glass?
