Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Some may object to my methods, but I just disconnected the pump via the two wire connector at the top.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect pump via the two wire connector at the top' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'related' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect pump via the two wire connector at the top' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

(It seems this part may exist for non porsche cars too, as I think this is a vendor used for multiple brands)

It seems quite clear that the issue is related to the pump since the initial symptoms were that it would struggle to inflate, but hold air.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to best access/replace the compressor pump?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, The lumbar system in the drivers seat of my 996 seats has stopped working. Initially, it seemed to be struggling to inflate, but held air for some time. However, it seems after about 8 months the air has leaked out, and I am unable to re-inflate.
It seems quite clear that the issue is related to the pump since the initial symptoms were that it would struggle to inflate, but hold air. Losing all the air completely also seems to coincide with my removal of the seats to rebuild the seat bottom foam. There is a chance I knocked something loose.
My questions are:
1. Can anyone point me in the direction of how to best access/replace the compressor pump? A DIY or any images/instructions would help before I start breaking things.
2. Does anyone know the part number of the compressor pump? (It seems this part may exist for non porsche cars too, as I think this is a vendor used for multiple brands)
Any other info outlining people's experiences repairing this would be great.
Thank you!
Start here. It appears the pump is located on the right side of the drivers seat. You may have to pull the seat cover off to access it.

For those searching for a groaning, buzzing, moaning sound in their seat, if you have this system, it may well be this pump.
I'm following up on this old thread because after a few searches, I couldn't find anything related to my symptoms. In my case, the noise went away with even light pressure on the seat bottom. That seemed very strange. My theory is that there is a leak in the system and that it somehow pays attention to pressure. When I was in the car, it generally "fixed" the leak and the noise stopped. The minute I'd get out, it would start making the noise. My concern was running down the battery.
If you think this is your problem, the pump is inside the right upper seat bolster. You can access the connection by removing only the seat back pad. You don't need to pull the seat out. Some may object to my methods, but I just disconnected the pump via the two wire connector at the top.
The car started buzzing like this when I brought it home a year ago. I only explored it now because the problem became much more frequent. The seat has clearly been messed with, and I wonder if this was one of the problems that caused the previous owner to cut bait and give me a great deal!
I'm keeping my eye out for some lighter seats. I really like the draped leather and the match to my "full leather" interior, but the mess of motors and wires is a bit ridiculous.
