Good picture on the 997 forum of someone's car that didn't get the motor mounts changed...in time.

I just had the trans mount replaced on my 02 Cab with tip and definitely feels tighter.

I did mine yesterday as well - started out the morning trying to install some H&R sport springs but ran into a snag (that's for another thread)...When I got home from "the shop" My motor mounts had arrived and were sitting on my kitchen table.

Suggestion
Can a couple of you who have replaced their mounts measure the top of their oval tip to the bottom of the bumper and let me know what the distance is between the two?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

93 k and shifting was rough....it is a WORLD of difference.....wow wish I did it sooner. Get the ones from Amazon....rein...and best 100 I have spent on it in some time.
Motor mount threads have finally taken the lead over the dreaded IMS posts.
It's about time we post about all the good stuff that makes our cars even better without breaking the bank
I did mine yesterday as well - started out the morning trying to install some H&R sport springs but ran into a snag (that's for another thread)...When I got home from "the shop" My motor mounts had arrived and were sitting on my kitchen table. I figured what the hell, it's a half hour job, I'll do them right in the driveway
... after 3 hrs., a trip back to the shop (needed the impact wrench and a breaker bar) and some mild cursing, I took "her" out for a test drive... Well worth the effort! Definitely tightened things up. No more "sloshing water in a bucket" feel in tight turns, and smoother shifts and acceleration. * Also the exhaust tips sit so much nicer in the bumper cutouts! I did take photo's if anyone's interested, but they're pretty much the same as the ones that have been posted before in other threads, so I'll only post if someone actually requests it.
I just had the trans mount replaced on my 02 Cab with tip and definitely feels tighter. I have the original motor mounts and I mentioned I have a new set at the house I was planning on installing. His response was, there is nothing wrong with my mounts, they look at feel great.
Can a couple of you who have replaced their mounts measure the top of their oval tip to the bottom of the bumper and let me know what the distance is between the two? I am curious to see if mine falls in line.
Mine are as follows, left side 1-1/4", right side 1-1/2". Looking from underneath the rubber looks great. I may change the mounts out anyway since I already have new ones sitting on the shelf.
Installed my new motor mounts today. When I had the out I compared them side by side the old ones looked stretched about 1/2" longer than the new ones. Looking close I could see deterioration of the old ones as well. As soon as my mufflers come back from getting the Gundo hack I will see how much higher my tips sit. I am hoping to have the mufflers back by tomorrow night but unfortunately it could be Monday. I guess I could drive around without the mufflers.

I read the thread- it seems the $500 quote was to install motor mounts only. Which actually is in line with reality given the cost of genuine OEM mm's (around $300 for the pair) and about 1 hr. labor (@$180/hr. - that's what the dealer near me charges). Obviously, if they find electrical or plumbing damage, the bill could get big fast...My only question would be whether they have a hot barista?
I bought the REIN motor mounts off of Amazon for like $58 each whereas Pelican and others are selling at $94 +. It took me 45 min, the air pump took longer to remove than installing both mounts. This is the perfect DIY project, really straight forward you just have to be careful when handling the oil fill tube.
Dunno about getting cheap motor mounts based on the brake rotor/pad thread. You might be taking a big gamble as it could fail and lodge the motor in the windshield of the car behind you or cause a 50 car pileup. LOL
I think it's a perfect compliment to the $122 rotor/brake thread.
When the mounts fail and the engine hits the ground the exhaust will act as an anchor to help with stopping power.
Problem solved, gamble hedged, risk mitigated.
Not so much as cheap motor mounts but inexpensive buying them directly from REIN through Amazon. What's the difference sending out your old motor mounts to have someone insert a poly material, all could fail.
Seeing as how a bunch of people on his board have installed the REIN MM's in the last couple weeks, we should be able to get a good "picture" if thse things start failing or sagging prematurely. FWIW, I'm going to send my original mounts to Function First to have them upgraded to Poly inserts.
Did the motor mounts and transmission mounts while I also did RMS, new Clutch, L&N IMS and a bunch of misc things. Was like driving the car for the first time. It was tight and quiet. Didn't realize the mounts made such a difference. My mechanic (Singh) at European Motor Specialists in Newport Beach recommended doing the IMS & Motor Mounts (needed a new RMS). Best advice I've ever had from a mech. I have to drive 120 miles to get the work done, but truly worth it.
After installing new trans mount and motor mounts I have come to the conclusion my suspension sucks. I guess I will have to look at springs and bigger sway bars as there is too much body roll.
No, I had an Indy do it when I took it in for a trans service. I paid $275 for the tiptronic trans mount and $100 in labor. I did the motor mounts in about 45 minutes, it took longer to get the air pump out then replacing both mounts.
I know this is off the topic but if I put adjustable sway bar links on my car can I adjust some of the body roll out or do I have to go with larger sway bars?
I know new motor mounts add like +25 HP to the wheels but I was just thinking about your handle. What does it mean? You're not the concierge from the Grand Budapest Hotel keeping the old ladies happy are you?
