Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I replaced my motor, I'm pretty sure I got boned for an extra 6 to 8 inches.
Leading evidence: 'Replace motor, i'm pretty sure i got boned' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check metal meticulously' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I guess they are using a lot of parts from your old motor like headers, exhaust manifolds, etc ?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not a bad deal... Just for consideration, my engines are base priced at 20,500 but they are not stock, and all have the IMS Solution and LN Nickies, making a minimum of 25HP and 40# more torque than factory.
It was just clearing the air, since he used an inaccurate price in his for sale ad. I also do not build any stock engines, which is what his engine is.
While the rules state that I can place an ad, I've never done it here, it leads to nothing positive.
The OP is offering a GREAT deal on this crate engine. Its a steal.
Fair enough.
It's hard to keep up with engine prices these days. I just looked at a 3yo thread for example and the poster posted his dealer receipt for $12k for reman from Porsche. I had to look at it twice. It's kinda ironic that the 996 is no where near collector status yet the parts still keep climbing through the roof, and not just engines either.
A perfectly good used one ? Good luck with that roll of the dice.
You can buy something like this and hope there's nothing wrong with it or spend another 4500 to know what you've got.

As ridiculous as I think it is to put that kind of money into a 996, it isn't any more expensive (actually less probably) than a air-cooled model reworking. I still plan on selling my corpse to Jake if it ever comes to that.
What I paid for my motor from Porsche, I literally picked it up this week so I'd say it's the most current price. Bear in mind I paid 15k up front and this was my cost after the core charge.
So they basically have to order all the parts now and build you a motor ? What's a short block ? I guess they are using a lot of parts from your old motor like headers, exhaust manifolds, etc ? This motor is totally complete. including headers. The way they used to sell them.
Normally a short block means only the block with the rotating assembly. No heads. Long block is usually with heads but nothing else (no accesories like manifolds, alternator, PS pump, etc.).
I see one of the itmes is 24 head bolts, so this is just the block with the rotating assembly.
My motor was also complete .. 1 for 1 ... Porsche shipped it to the mechanic and the mechanic shipped my motor back for the core. There are also a few extras in there I forgot to mention because the short block doesn't fit into my '01 C4 because the '01 was a long block
Omfg. That's one of the funniest things I've ever read on the interwebs.
A short block and a long block are the same engine in different stages of completion. A long block isn't "longer" than a short block.
Did your mechanic charge more to fit the "long block" into your engine bay, or to modify the
short
one to fit in your
long
car? If so, you got boned.
Wow.
On one hand it's funny... on the other it is depressing. I like to think that most folks are honest, but this reeks of "Let's buttf**k this guy, he's clueless."
The long block "crate" engine for the 996 is no longer available from the Porsche factory. They will sell you a short block engine for about $11K, which is the engine without the heads and any ancillaries. The additional labour ($12 to $15K I was quoted) is for work to the heads on the existing engine, and all the labour needed for an engine exchange, plus any ancillary parts that needed to be replaced or upgraded. It all adds up to a lot more than the price I paid for my 997 engine.
The factory no longer makes them but new complete engines are still available priced from $48,000 to $51,000 which makes about as much sense as the rest of this thread. You want the part numbers so you can get one while they last?
Because RL where peeps tend to interpret or read way more into a response and come up with their own conclusions. Wonder if these are the same guys translating hieroglyphics.
Alp, are you threatening me? I mean like WTF bruh, what are you trying to say already? Is that you calling and hanging up? Another thread goes down.
Anyway, about the engine. Makes no sense.
Interestingly, the following is "IMSB" in hieroglyphics.
Check it out with a translator. It appears in several pyramids. Perhaps we are all just suffering the consequences of some Egyptian curse.
