Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What do you think...keep my 1999 C2 cab in excellent condition with these factory option: Carbon fiber inside trim, rear parking assist, navigation, tiptronic, everything work well and it has 109000km. Or go for a 2003 C4S, manual with 140000km ? Is there specific thing that I have to be aware with the C4S ? Help me

POST 3Original post

I have a 2001 C4. My next Porsche will be a 2012 or newer. Its gonna take a few years but I dont see much point in trading just to get one a couple years newer. Especially when they have similar mileage.

POST 4Original post

Love the c4s. Very much prefer the manual over trip. It's going to feel a bit more luxurious and the widebody is a different look. Biggest con I can think of is you know your pampered car and I am sure you have her well cared for. Who knows what you will get yourself into with the new one. Specific thing to watch for: all the usual crap we deal with with our 996s and let's be honest their aging. IMS, suspension (control arms, coilovers, tie rods), cats, engine mounts, transmission mounts, water pump, sensors. Typical stuff if she was well maintained and is in good shape many of these may not be an issue - over all the look and drive of the C4S just an amazing car. And very possibly all the folks with C2s will tell you why they are better and the c4s owners will press the 4a case. Good luck with what ever you decide all great cars in the end!

POST 5Original post

+1 on the turbo comment. Although many do prefer NA cars. Don't know which camp your in. I personally did not want a 996TT only wanted the C4S. Targeted the 997 for Turbo. Otherwise probably would have gone for a TT myself - primarily due to engine.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you Cerex for the comment. Very interesting. And yes my C2 cab is well pampered. I think I just love the look of the wide body. I'll go this weekend for a test drive the C4S...just to see

POST 7Original post

Since the c4s shares a lot of parts with the turbo it's more expensive to keep up. For example the radiators are ~$500 a piece for the c4s, whereas the regular c2/c4 are ~$350. And the rads will need replacing. They always leak a little at the top plastic seam. POS design. That being said, for me it's all about dat ***! Go for the C4s.

I would agree with this. If there isn't a need/want to get rid of the current one, then staying in the same group seems odd to me. Another way to look at it is that you've got yours all sorted and happy, do you really want someone else's issues all over again (assuming you aren't the original owner on the current one). Now if you are tired of the cab and want a coupe or want to play with the AWD, then that makes more sense. If it's just the itch for a "new" car though...

POST 9Original post

get the C4S widebody - much better looking/driving/handling car than the narrow body besides better looks and drivability, the resale value of C4S will be better thwn your 996 whenever you decide to pull the trigger on a turbo or 997 some day

POST 10Original post

If you're selling your car for a widebody, consider paying a little more for a turbo; more reliable engine, better resale market, and you'll be drunk with power.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you all for your comment ! You're right, if I change it will be for the look. I like the look of the coupe better and what to say about that ***.... But I also enjoy a nice summer ride in the sun without the top... Hard to decide

POST 12Original post

03' C4S came standard with full leather interior, turbo brakes and suspension, wide body. I actually traded a '99 Carrera for a '03 C4S in '04. I traded my '03 for a '07 C4S in 2012. The 997 is a far better car if you can afford one.

POST 13Original post

Keep the 99 you'll be just fine, buy the C4S and soon be homeless....go with the turbo and watch your girl go

POST 14Original post

When I let my 996 go (which may be never) the next one will have the Mezger (996TT) or DFI (09 or newer) engine.

POST 15Original post

I'd be reluctant to trade a car I know for one I don't know that has 30,000 more KM on it. If we were talking a 2-year old car vs. a 5-year-old car, it would matter more - but 12 vs. 15 years is a wash in many ways.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's it !! Time has decide for me...the C4S I was looking is sold ! So I'll keep my '99 cab and I am happy with it. Thank for your comment,
