I don't remember the pinouts for the four wires, but a Google search will provide that info - this connector has been used by many, many folks to power stereos, radar detectors, and other switched stuff.

If you only plan to use MP3/Satellite, you can leave the antenna disconnected, further reducing the likelihood of broadcast signals interfering with your modulator.
Leading evidence: 'Use by many, many folks' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect further reducing the likelihood of broadcast signals interfering' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Since I did not want to tear out the MOST-bus components and all of the speakers, I used the modulator and an empty 1-din slot left after removing the CD tray to add a second head unit, with MP3, satellite, etc - and just used the Porsche unit as a preamp.

I used a similar unit to add a second head unit to my MOST-equipped 986 Boxster, and the sound was more than adequate.

I used the stock phone harness for switched power and ground and mounted the jack & switch in the bat wing.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am about to install one of these to add AUX input to my stereo. I'm wondering about placement of the device and whether it is necessary to try to shield the RCA wires from +12V to avoid engine whining thru speakers? I remember that being a problem years ago with low-level RCA wires headed to an amp. Also, where is best place to get power & ground? I was planning on grabbing from behind the radio but not sure if there is a better choice. I havent decided on where to put the input jack and switch, either in the batwing or along side the CD holder...
Any tips or suggestions would be great.
BTW, this is for a 2003 with Bose/MOST.
The phone connecter you'll find below the center console - four wires, including switches 12V and ground - will work perfectly for powering your FM modulator. The powered modulators do not need an RF choke - the signal will sound fine. I used a similar unit to add a second head unit to my MOST-equipped 986 Boxster, and the sound was more than adequate. It's not audiophile quality, but nothing about the audio system is...

The audio quality was surprisingly good, considering the extent to which this was a dreadful lash-up. You can see that the Porsche radio is tuned to 88.3, one of the frequencies the modulator supported.
I never had any issues with interferences with this setup - the powered in-line (i.e. connect directly to the antenna) modulators are sufficiently powerful to drown out any competing broadcast stations. If you only plan to use MP3/Satellite, you can leave the antenna disconnected, further reducing the likelihood of broadcast signals interfering with your modulator.
The image below shows the phone connector you can use to power your modulator. I don't remember the pinouts for the four wires, but a Google search will provide that info - this connector has been used by many, many folks to power stereos, radar detectors, and other switched stuff.
Job is done, pretty straight-forward. Most difficult part was fishing the antenna wires behind the radio but i got it taken care of. Sound quality is adequate, similar to FM radio. I used the stock phone harness for switched power and ground and mounted the jack & switch in the bat wing. The modulator and excess wiring is all stuffed behind the bat wing.
Don't these have a AUX input for our heads? Couldn't some RCA cords and adapters be ran up to the existing head?
As far as shielding, yes, power cables and RCA cables should be kept apart as much as possible and everything grounded properly.
