This is why I always put a bolt through one of the holes in the door tracks or use a c-clamp on the track whenever I have the car positioned under the garage door.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Relaxing on the sofa, watching basketball, enjoying a beer. Daughter comes in from playing outside with this: "Daddy, the brakes on my bike broke... and I crashed into your car" She is walking, and seems uninjured, so I go to the car first. Looks bad at first, but after cleaning off the rubber and plastic residue, the scratches aren't too deep. Looks like I'll be investing in a good random orbit polisher after all. Should have closed the garage door. The bike is unaffected, aside from the derailed chain that caused the incident. Do I need to build a second garage?

POST 2Original post

That literally WILL buff right out. No big deal.

POST 4Original post

Chain fell off ehhh? Been neglecting some maintenance? Sorry for the mishap, part of having kids is learning to repair new things

POST 5Original post

Yep, should buff right out. Kiss your little girl and thank her for telling you.

POST 6Original post

Glad no one was hurt! And, as noted, good that she fessed up. It sucks when things happen to your ride, but in the end, it's just a car. -td

+1...a little clay bar and polish and it will be gone. Your girl did good.

That's funny - I saw your other post although I didn't read it. Does it count as a premonition?

POST 9Original post

Sounds like your daughter understands honesty and concern...nice job Dad.

POST 10Original post

I agree with the comments about your daughter...good girl!

+1 My Daughter(s) is always playing in the driveway by the garage. I always make sure to keep the garage door closed behind the Porsche. Also, they know not to play inside the garage by the cars. I hope the scratches are not too deep and buff out for you.

POST 12Original post

glad to hear she is ok... Better get those brakes checked... That no biggie. those will buff out easy

POST 13Original post

Kudos on raising a child with honesty, ethics and taking responsibilities. Your daughter owning up is far more valuable than whatever the scratches cost to fix.

POST 14Original post

This is a "good news" story all around. As a father myself (I have 4), one hopes that we teach our kids to do the right thing when they screw up. So congrats, you've raised your little girl well. Besides, it could have been much worse: LINK

POST 16Original post

No, read the story in the link - it was the teenage son of an automotive journalist in Toronto who was showing a brand new 997 Turbo that his dad was reviewing to a friend while it was parked in the garage, when they thought it would be fun to fire it up - and the rest is history...

POST 17Original post

That is a painful sight^^^^ To the OP - Glad daughter is ok and looks like the damage is minor

POST 18Original post

Absolutely nothing could have been a big deal about the car. She was upset and scared when then came to tell you. Give her a big hug tell her thank you for telling you and your not upset and you glad she's ok.

Thanks for putting a positive spin on this. I had the same thought when she told me about the mishap (after the shock wore off, of course) As an added bonus, I have an excuse to get one of those polishers I was wanting anyway. Yeah, it was a "coaster brake" bike, and the chain had come off. I've already tightened it up.

POST 20Original post

For crashing into Grandpa's Porsche, hanging by the thumbs for 6 hours! I suspect as Grandpa I am too easy going.

POST 21Original post

Lucky she crashed into your car, instead of a moving car, or rock wall, etc! Glad she's OK, and your bumper will be too. As everyone has said, good for her fessing up and being honest!

POST 22Original post

Same thing happened last April with my 8 year old son and his mountain bike. Little Mikey is currently in the "sandbox" serving with the 2nd Recon Batt. USMC as a radio operator. Sniff, we are soooo proud !!

I would go with a Porter Cable 7424 and some Menzerna Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO83 with an orange pad, then Menzerna Final Polish II with a white pad. I buy my detailing stuff from www.properautocare.com -- great place.

POST 24Original post

It's always good to keep things like this in perspective. If my young daughter hitting my Porsche with her bike (it's happened) is what needs to happen to show me that I'm raising her to be honest and to do the right thing, it's well worth it. Also, the moment I realized I was really a father was the day a little girl ran square into the back bumper of my parked car and my first reaction was "OMG! Are you OK?" rather than "Look what you did to my CAR!"

Plus one hundred. My moment came a few years back when I passed a bunch of girls in the mall all tarted up, and instead of my first thought being "Heeeyyyy, how you doin?" it was "those girls are way too young to be wearing clothes like that." As soon as I realized what had just happened, I had to

Add my voice to those that expressed relief your daughter was uninjured. The damage to the car is very very minor. Fix the bike. And I hope if she doesn't already have one, be sure when your daughter goes out again on her bike she has a good bicycle helmet. Sincerely, Macster.
