All my coils looked great, the only issue was a bit of gas and oil on the passenger side front's.
Leading evidence: 'bit of gas and oil' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit of gas and oil' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace coil pack in cylinder 3 today...still misfiring at' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 1 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Odd thing is, I changed all the plugs yesterday and drove quite a bit today, before changing plug in cylinder 4.

If you keep getting random misfires just replace the coils.

The 1316 code (cylinder 4) didn't pull at all today and I actually had no codes until after replacing the plug in that one, then 1315 cylinder 3 goes after.

No issues on the test drive, until I got on the freeway, 3rd gear, 6500 rpm or so (warmed up and testing how its running) and all the sudden, sputter, cel, misfire again.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, so I'm driving the 996 to work Wednesday I get 22 miles or so into the trip of 25miles. All the sudden I hear pop pop pop and shaking. I pull the code and get P1316. Well darn I'll look tonight...I leave work and start heading home then all the sudden it sounds like gun shots out of the exhaust (no cats, or mufflers).
Get the same code P1316. I have it towed 22 miles to my gf's house as that was a bit cheaper and I can work on the car at her place.
Fast forward to yesterday, the 996 has been parked since the tow and I start working on it. I get 5 out of 6 spark plugs changed. The only one I couldn't get to is the
far back passenger
side one (closest to the bumper and cat bypass pipes). I turned it on and went for a test drive. Woohoo everything is going great, no issues, seems quicker than before. i drove about 80 miles today without issues. When I got to my house I started working on the far back passenger side spark plug. Got it changed. No issues on the test drive, until I got on the freeway, 3rd gear, 6500 rpm or so (warmed up and testing how its running) and all the sudden, sputter, cel, misfire again. This time its P1315.
I do have durametric but I cannot figure it out. My question is, what cylinder (location description, since IDK which cylinder is which) is P1315 affecting. I'm really hoping it is the last one I did today, if so I'll just have an indy re-install that one.
All my coils looked great, the only issue was a bit of gas and oil on the passenger side front's. I think I'll need to replace the sleeve thing because the coil itself looked great.
TIA for help.
How many miles on the coils? You need to look close for cracks, but they can fail with no physical indication. Your error indicate bank 1 cylinder 3 according to a brief google search.
Swap this coil with another and see if the issue continues. Then you know for sure it was a bad coil. Or just eat the couple hundred bucks and get new coils.
Thanks, do you happen to know which one is cylinder 3. I want to swap the coil packs but don't how which one is which lol.
I'm not 100% on the mileage on the coils, I think 25k on them, but I don't have the records in front of me. The car has 85960 miles as of now
Peter, thanks your right it, I actually think that is the easiest one to get to. Odd thing is, I changed all the plugs yesterday and drove quite a bit today, before changing plug in cylinder 4. The 1316 code (cylinder 4) didn't pull at all today and I actually had no codes until after replacing the plug in that one, then 1315 cylinder 3 goes after. Does this sound odd, or maybe a coincident.
Well, my experience with misfires is that they can be sporadic and indicate a impending failure. If you keep getting random misfires just replace the coils. I recently did this and still had a misfire on cylinders 1-3. I checked everything I could before sending it to the shop to find out the cam solenoid seal was leaking causing a loss in vacuum and throwing the misfire code.
Doesn't the durametric have a way to view pending codes? Misfires will be logged immediately, but won't appear right away as a CEL.
It does show pending, but I tried pulling while driving and it was misfiring quite a bit before Durametric picked it up.
I replaced the coil pack in cylinder 3 today...still misfiring at that cylinder.
Good news/exciting is, I called Autozone this morning, they said all they have is there house brand's coil pack (duralast), I said oh well, I need it quick so I ordered it. 3 hours later the local store had it. To my surprise it has duralast box, a small duralast logo sticker on the side and BERU logo and part number on the top of the coil...the last 3 are off from what my car had before, so maybe that is causing the issue. I thought maybe the number was just an updated edition.
So I know, why is Duralast so great that it actually is a OEM product but by Beru? It is because it has a Lifetime Warranty. The guy said I could return my old coil since Autozone thinks this is a life of the engine type part. Tomorrow I'm going to order 5 more (6 maybe) and swap them all out. Only $46 a piece too.
