I need to address the headlights now as I removed one to replace the halogen and it appears someone retrofit the halogens to HID

ECU evaluation for rough running, fuel trim, and overrevs?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First of all, stunningly beautiful car. Nothing like the mix of red and tan colors... match made in heaven. Congrats!
Second, did you have the engine inspected? Bore scoped? Check for intermix? IMS bearing? ECU evaluation for rough running, fuel trim, and overrevs?
Zanzibar Red (orange) is rare and other than paint to sample maybe most valuable color. We wanted to get that shade but in a cabriolet with tiptronic transmission, and they may never have made that combination so we might have been waiting forever. Also we wanted a wood interior and for our combo blue and orient red were the usual colors.
Wow, that color is rare and very beautiful. Always loved it. You should get yours paint corrected and ceramic coated. Definitely worth it. Check out this video.

It really is. I can't wait to give it the full detail buff like above. It really needs it. It's a nice car but not perfect. I need to address the headlights now as I removed one to replace the halogen and it appears someone retrofit the halogens to HID
. I'm not a fan of how they did this and it's an electrical nightmare. I am almost inclined to rip it all out and go back to halogens. The HID box and lights also melted the housings... I wasn't a happy camper. They also cut a hole to allow the wiring setup inside the housing
. Going to take it to a local guy who does Porsches and have him look at this rats nest.
Most 996s I would say modify and put miles on them as much as you want. But a rare one I would want to keep it stock and only drive a few times a year.
I definitely agree with keeping it stock as that's a very rare spec but not with driving it few times a year. We've seen what happens when people do that and what's the point in owning the car. I always get a chuckle when you hear about some classic Ferraris getting driven few hundred miles a year and then they still need to drop $12k for an engine out service.
The car has already passed the low mile spectrum. I would think driving and keeping up with all repairs would be much more beneficial to your fun factor and the car's health.
Just go ahead and get your t-shirt that says "It's Zanzibar Red"! At a recent PCA event my buddy and I were laughing at how many times I was asked "what color is that?".
You're going to love it and in 13 years of owning our 986 we have never been to an event where there was another Zanzibar Porsche. I would highly suggest PPF as it is virtually impossible to touch up and my friend who owns a indy body shop but is a Porsche guy says it's impossible to match.
Gorgeous car! Enjoy!
