Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at 40 anniversary it has 113k listed as a driver with the follow issues. What would be a good price for it? Seller stated that the car shifts perfect. took to a GPO and said he was offered 21k and the only thing that needs attention was rotors and starter. I think this needs more. Known issues: Rear main seal is weeping (has never left a drop of oil or fluid on the garage floor), chatter from flywheel when launching from first, brake rotors will need to be replaced, starter is spotty but eventually engages and turns-over, motor mounts are seeping (brand new, replaced 4K miles ago), keyless entry does not work

POST 2Original post

I'm biased as a somewhat new owner of the 40th Anniversary car (#1111) but here is my take. What # is the car? There is a community of owners that could be of help getting some history potentially. It sounds like the car does need some work. Do you know if the IMS was done? It might not the be RMS leaking but the IMS. If not, you're looking at around $4k+ to address IMS, RMS and clutch. This number should grow slightly with the new starter, motor mounts and brakes. Does the car come with the original wheels? The are the lightweight carrera II lightweight wheels that have been ceramic polished by BBS. They tend to corrode and some owners end up refinishing them or swapping wheels. IMHO these cars are sort of like the first GTS before that trim became an option. They come with the X51 power pack which gives around 25 extra HP but more importantly there are improvements around lubrication with aluminum baffles in the sump and improvements helping cylinder #6 with lubrication. You also get an improvement exhaust manifold and an all aluminum intake manifold. The entire interior is also natural leather which to me really helps the interior out. If you're lucky, the car may have color matcher hard back sport seats, like mine did. Another plus is that the car also came with an LSD, turbo front radiators as well as turbo front bumper which looks fantastic. I believe HID lights were also part of the package. Last thing to be mindful of is the dreaded bore scoring. Ideally, you want to get a bore scope done to confirm things are good there. Depending on the condition and past records it might be a great buy. Just budget for the above repairs. I never considered these cars, mainly looking for a regulars C2 but once I learned more I decided to look for the right one. POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the? info. The seller stated its #1013 the IMS was done and it does have the original wheels some curb rash. I will look into getting a PPI. How much should the car be based on current description

POST 5Original post

I would ask to see the records. It depends when the IMS was done. Assuming it's the retrofit, it is not a permanent solution and has a replacement period. Mine was done too but 10 years ago and I just had it replaced again. Depending on that info and what that job costs in your area, I would use that as a negotiating piece. A proper PPI is never a bad idea and can save you a lot of headaches.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks Let me see if I get the car first. How much?

POST 7Original post

Buy them, do not think I will be buying the car and I don't want anyone holding something that I may not need.

POST 9Original post

I know of that car (#1013) as I was inquiring about it during my search back in early August. I will tell you the transmission was replaced at 107,500 miles with a used one (which had ~50k miles) that the seller disclosed to me. This is why I ended up passing on it and didn't perform a PPI on it. I also remember that sometime in Late August/Early September, the seller put it on eBay but it did not sell. Guess he listed it again.

The information I was receiving did not seem kosher. I decided to pass too
