Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
The car was so clean that it would make it through an auction easy, just wouldn't stay running right, so it skipped from stone to stone.
Leading evidence: 'Run right' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). In the most recent buy, the car wasn't running right and had been through several dealers and auctions, so there was something going on that was still a mystery when we saw it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
I think I am close to making an offer on a 1999 996 factory Aero. It is about 1,500 miles away from me, so everything has been done remotely (had a fellow Rennlister kindly go view it for me today).
I plan to have a local Porsche mechanic do a PPI on the car - but am curious if I should negotiate the price before or after the PPI?
I believe the car is a little over priced based on miles, age, etc - and I have a figure in my mind which I will not go above. I don't want to go through the time and cost of a PPI, if the seller doesn't plan to budge on price.
Thoughts? Advice?
do PPI first so you can use use findings to negotiate price.......make this known to seller now. if he is not amenable to this, nix the PPI and start over with the search.
Negotiate price first, really hard, then do the PPI. Then, if the PPI shows something, you can use that to further reduce the price. Don't give the seller the upper hand by disclosing whats wrong with the car before you negotiate price. He'll just stand firm at some point and not go any lower.
No need to spend the money on a PPI until you are certain you can get the car at a price you are willing to pay. Use the PPI to verify condition, not to negotiate price. Of course if the PPI turns up SIGNIFICANT UNDISCLOSED problems, then price needs to be revisited. But, you might want to reconsider buying at all if that is the case. If the PPI turns up minor issues, don't be that guy who tries to nickel and dime the seller to death.
I checked out a car on Saturday for a Rlister and he and I discussed the offer based on my review. He is making the offer and if accepted he's doing the PPI.

The car was so clean that it would make it through an auction easy, just wouldn't stay running right, so it skipped from stone to stone.
I decided that I wanted the car and had the dealer send it for a PPI when he got it returned from the dealer he sold it to because it threw 5 codes. This kind of situation was ideal for establishing a price after the PPI had been started. We settled on a price before the diagnosis and repairs, but after the initial PPI
I write up a bill of sale with agreed negotiated price before PPI I include a clause “ purchase subject to an acceptable PPI received and payed for by the buyer” That way both parties show sincere interest and if PPI shows items buyer is concerned about price can be adjusted to reflect those concerns.
