POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

we are thinking about selling our 996 cab, and our mustang GT) I listed 996 on two sites, not a bite, I priced it right about the average price of every other 2000 cab with roughly the same miles, (I think ours is at 77k now) (I put a listed price for 23k) what is this thing really worth? it has the rear spoiler the plush interior, manual trans PSM multi disk CD player the car was been wrapped with speed film it is really in nice shape where is a good place to list this car? thanks! Tom

POST 2Original post

Jan. isn't the best month to sell any car, let alone a convertible sports car. I have had good luck with Autotrader and Craigslist in the past.

POST 3Original post

Perhaps, winter is NOT the best time of year to sell a cab? FWIW, I found mine listed on Autotrader and Craigslist....and did buy it in DECEMBER (in SoCal though )

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11935194

ttrue, I did run it on CL a couple months back and I tried I think cars.com I did have a offer from CL for 12k 12k hzahahaha, id part it out first or make a track car out of it hahaha

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11935192

yea, I did run a while back though, I haven't seen any much if at all cheaper with same miles n stuff, are these cars just hat hard to sell?

POST 6Original post

Low 20's seems a reasonable price. I agree, selling a 2WD cab in Jan eliminates 50% of the US unless you are going to give it away.

POST 7Original post

I would guess asking price starting with digit other than "1" eliminates half of all potential 996 buyers. Maybe spring 2015 will be different!

POST 8Original post

Your price is too high. A final sale price of roughly $17,000 would be fair for both parties IMO from what I've seen in the last year. I have been scanning the market diligently in search of my own car, which I picked up last month. Also depends on what major maintenance you've done recently.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11935912

I sure haven't seen any Cabs with a 17k price tag with under 80k miles though, it also goes to show you no one cares about any options or ad ons (like plush interior, spoiler, psm) man did I sure mess up buying this car, perhaps your right though price to high.. well when I open up the search to a broader area, I did find some cheaper 2000 models when you get around 100k miles on them, but they definitely do not have he premium style wheels spoiler ect. "Starting to wonder if we should sell it and buy a newer one or not"

POST 10Original post

I didn't say ask $17,000 I said final sales price of $17,000. And we have a saying in the real estate business, "something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it." People can advertise a car for whatever they want, doesn't mean that is what it's worth.

POST 11Original post

I would ask $19,500 and see what kind of action that gets you. Like I said $17,000 purchase price is fair, and I think the fact that your car hasn't sold after months of advertising on multiple high traffic sites proves my point.

POST 12Original post

List it in autotrader, do a national search, to see for how much are they going, then you will have an average, less than, 20 no way, let them buy a Miata for that price. Like others said, winter is not a good time. I think you're car is fairly priced, but you have to be patient this is not a Toyota this car is for a specific market, try also your local PCA club, here and the Panirama magazine. POST 13Original post

$20,000+ for a MK1 77k mile convertible is not feasible at any time of year. I love Porsches too and I wish these cars were worth more than they are. Why don't you buy it if you think it's such a good deal?

POST 14Original post

You also can't just blame this on the time of year. He's been trying to sell the car for awhile now. Please take a look at this link. It is a mix of MK1 and MK2 cabs all listed under $20,000 with well under 80,000 miles and most of them are on the sunny west coast. Use this as a bench mark, or don't listen to me, frankly I don't care. I just want to help you sell your car before 2025. http://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchr...=GN_REFINEMENT

I have one already so....no thanks. Everything depends on how soon you need the money, there is always a buyer who's willing to pay sooner or later if is for the right amount. (Which is this case) This is not just a Porsche is the 911 like it or not. At the end of the day, even though it was produce in large quantities, this is not a Corolla and the depreciation hit the bottom already. I welcome you to do a national search in autotrader and see the average price, not even 30, 2000 Cabrios are available. Sent from my iPhone using Rennlist

POST 17Original post

Please click on the link I posted, I did the research for you already. My point is proven by the examples for sale now. Sure there is "always a buyer" but this is a transaction of a minimal amount. When selling a shopping center for $5-10 million you're willing to wait an extra year to squeeze another $1,000,000 out of the deal. But a >$20,000 car? No thanks.

POST 18Original post

Ya not sure about the prices personally but might we worth dropping price to $19999 and take any offer in the $19k bracket.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 11936122

Good to see that you're now agreeing it's worth more than $20K.

POST 20Original post

tks12: Check out cargurus.com. They have a price analysis chart if you run a search for 2000 911 cab, 6-spd. That may give you a ballpark on where to price your car. When I sold my Boxster earlier last year, I listed it on autotrader, cars, CL and cargurus. It took me almost 6 months to sell. I got really ridiculous offers and interesting queries regarding IMS, etc. Winter is a slow time to sell a cab. Good luck.

POST 21Original post

Been looking to get a cab......can you pm me?

POST 22Original post

What on earth could you buy for the low ball money you've been told is a fair price? Only price that means anything is the one you feel makes sense. Don't just use CL and Autotrader for comps, look at what Porsche dealers are asking for the same model and milage. Look in PCA magazine and see what fellow enthusiasts are asking. Think about what you have in terms of real value. And yes winter is a tougher time to sell a Cab...and tax time is about to hit us. I would wait for warmer months and when the tax refunds start arriving and people have some cash to burn.

POST 23Original post

Like I said before what people are asking means nothing, it's what the cars are selling for that matters. What I saw when I searched for my car was that a car like his would have sold for somewhere around the $17-$18,000 mark with a full service history. These were my findings and my findings alone, granted I searched extensively for well over a year so I feel my findings are accurate. No offense to him or anyone else who owns a 996 911. Keep in mind that I own one of these cars as well, and want nothing but for their value to hold or grow.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 11937060

Indeed. I bought my 996 when I had an unexpectedly large refund due to massive tax overpayments throughout the year.

POST 29Original post

The fact that your car is a cab detracts from the value in my opinion.

Curious..why do you feel that way?

POST 31Original post

I like both coupe and cab for my personal cars, but just from watching the market it seems like the coupes hold their value better. Just an observation. If I did have a personal view it would be that the coupe is better looking than the cab, but the cab has its perks as well.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it's gone, i will say, I wont buy another 996 non Turbo, (in fact I more than likely won't fool with another 996 period - maybe <g>) what a hard car to sell, wow everyone that replied to any ad either had something bad to say about the 996, or wanted to know if we had the IMS replacement done on it, and the only response from autotrader was some jerk telling me that everyone knows what a dog the 996 was and how cheap i should sell it , and that he saving to buy a 997 because it was such a better car, (little did he know how little failures there were, particularly on the early 996) after 6 of his emails I finally told him he just couldn't afford a Porsche, and if I wanted to buy a 997 I didn't have to save to buy one (some people kill me) it;s funny butt to tell the truth the Porsche seller is the hardest to deal with and the Porsche buyer is the hardest to deal with out of any cars we have ever owned, , BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Lincoln, Chevy and Dodge, Porsche buyers are the worst, and the sellers are the hardest, I will say, if buying a 911, buy a turbo, they sure seem to hold their value MUCH better (unless your getting into older 911 , I just saw a 1969 911 go for 78,000.00 today at auction - I know it had at least on body repair to the right front fender but it was supposedly a numbers matching car, that had been swapped over to dual webers, but the Fuel injection was all there in a box, I think it is on it;s way to south fl. I still think the 996 is a under valued car used, it is a very good handling car with a pretty decent ride that was not at all uncomfortable to drive 600-800 miles non stop days (ok ok stopping for fuel) on trips sad they have a bad rep with such little % of issues - note to end with, I will be keeping my eye out for my wife another Porsche, and itt will be a 911 variant, i was time tto sell with it just hitttitng 80,000 miles, nextt one we buy will be much less miles when we buy and really going to look hard for a turbo cab

POST 36Original post

I'm happy for you that you finally sold it. The easy way to get value out of these cars is to drive them. It's pretty much agreed by everyone that they're great driving cars. Also agreed that they can be bought cheap. That combination is great for a buyer. When it comes time to sell its another story, at least for the last bunch of years. Think of the original owner and the bath he took. Maybe someday it will change but then it won't be so good for the buyer. You couldn't have lost to much if you didn't buy it new and you probably didn't buy it as an investment, I hope you like driving the next whatever it is as much. I noticed that the first post was only about 5 weeks ago, not really that long before it sold.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12042494

it has been listed for some time, and a while back as well, still I hated tto see it go knowing we dont have another in he garage yet, and to tell the truth had it been a turbo, it probably would not have been sold right now unless we knew we were getting a newer one right now, but on the other hand fact is, it ended up being the right time to sell, the miles were starting to get high for anyone interested in a Porsche at all with 80,000 miles on it, and my wife just driving it to work once would add 100 miles, so in no time it would really kill the value, someone else might drive it a weekend here and there or [possibly not have a 100 mile drive for work everyday and get a lot longer time period out of it we enjoyed (ok my wife enjoyed I only go to drive it a few times <g>) and will miss it till we replace it. I still cant believe the 996 does not hold value better, everything negative inquiry was about the IMS failure period, and I really think they just try to use that to get you to come down on price DRASTICALLY , we held out. I would love to meet the guy with the 7500 dollar offer telling me what a POJ the 996 was, I just told him, if it is so bad, you dont want it at any price ill just scrap it to save him trouble. and hung up on him

POST 38Original post

i just recently purchased a 2000 cabriolet here in Southern California after looking for about 3 months. What I found here-on Craigslist and Auto Trader- is everyone is asking $3-5000 over KBB Private Party with zero reasons for doing so. I found that once you get north of Los Angeles-North of Santa Barbara-prices come down to Book value where they belong. As such-after months of trying to get the sellers down here-who still have not sold their cars-to listen to reason-i bought a 2000 for $17k and 40k original miles with records in Visalia-North of Bakersfield. I have an RMS slight leak and will be doing the LNE IMS retrofit with the rear main seal repair later this month. Do the clutch at same time. I'll have about $20k in the car with miles of smiles ahead. So if you are serious about selling-look at what KBB PP is saying the car is worth and price it accordingly. There are plenty of 996's out there-if you want to sell yours in a reasonably quick turnaround-price it right.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
