Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced my factory mounts with WEVO semi-solid mounts, and the passenger seat jiggles went away.

You need to replace the engine mounts - very easy DIY.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I wanted to introduce myself, I have been a longtime lurker and have probably been leaving drool drips on some of your cars paint locally for the past 30+ years. I am still in shock that yesterday I drove a 911 home to live in my garage. I have owned a lot of neat cars, luxurious cars but have never been able (with having kids so young) been able to afford to buy and maintain a 911. Enough about me.. You guys are probably much more interested in the machine over the man.
After an extensive search and much research/ consideration vs. budget I decided to purchase my new to me 1999 Porsche 911.
The car is very well optioned with heated seats, 18" Sport Classic wheels, and a Bluetooth stereo (aftermarket). The paint is original, glossy and without any dents or chips or scratches. The interior is very clean with no majors signs of wear. The engine appears leak free and has full documentation up to 68k miles with 92k on the odometer now. The windows are tinted, tires are pilot sports with good tread and the car drives very well.
The car should have the double chain/bearing IMS if my research is correct, and does not appear to have RMS issues. My biggest gripes are some minor rattles etc around the windshield and rear c pillar area and a slight vibration in the passenger seat when unoccupied. I will be addressing those items as time permits, and performing basic maintenance over the next few weeks and months. On to the photos!
I could only upload one at a time... Huh more to follow..
Congrats! I remember I posted that car here when I was looking at them, I did look at it on line a few times. Didn't it have a carbon fiber interior or something?
Congrats! Nice car. You have an early build '99 since you have the amber taillights. I have read that those have very few problems. I had the same passenger seat rattle when I bought my '99 in January 2013. You need to replace the engine mounts - very easy DIY.
Congrats! Car looks great! Is it dark blue?
Welcome from another 99 C2 owner who only beat you here by a matter of months!
IMS was done on mine right at the mileage yours has now. No issues with it but the clutch was due.
The vibration in your passenger seat is likely due to worn motor mounts - the seat back bouncing/jiggling is a sign, as is a height difference between the left and right exhaust tips. I replaced my factory mounts with WEVO semi-solid mounts, and the passenger seat jiggles went away.
Congrats on the purchase. The '99 is a great choice for a number of reasons.
Here is a fun little bonus I just discovered... The exhaust is not stock.. Looks like a B&B system.. Stainless mufflers, manifolds... Wondered why it sounded so sweet..
30 day + update:
I drove my dream car home 37 days ago, I have driven it on several dates with my wife, and countless 70 mile travels to my office and back. The car is amazing, head turner in traffic or at the gas pump. In driving it a few little things have come up and I have been reading a lot to prepare to address them in the spring.
1) motor mounts were shot, knew this when I bought it but they are almost unbearable. I bought new ones and am excited about that project.
2) rattles around the windshield will be addressed next time I'm at the dealer for parts following the tsb.
3) ordered new floor mats
4) purchased clutch booster spring upgrade will install in the spring
5) oil change is due in 500 miles @ 5000miles
I've developed a slight accessory "whine" it seems, it been cold and at first I wondered if that was the cause but I can pretty much replicate it so I don't think that's it. It starts around 2500rpm and ends around 3200rpm. Not sure where to start but I know it's not driveline or wheel bearings because it does it in neutral sitting still as well.
The car is an absolute joy overall. Best all round sports car / driver I have ever owned.
Cheers!
Congrats, RRTECH - the car looks great! I know you are enjoying it.
ps, I'm right down the road from you in Lincoln Co., TN. Bought a farm down here when I retired from the music biz in Nashville a few years ago.
Nice car!
They [magazines] call the 996 an entry level Porsche. These cars have gotten a bad rap but we can keep the secret for a little while longer.....
I had an air cooled Porsche, thought it was the best until I got a 996. These cars are great corner eaters and are a pleasure to drive [good air conditioning for one].
Enjoy the drive!
I grew up in Alabama and love the south, especially where I am now. I enjoyed living/working in Nashville but was ready to slow down. Still lots of friends there and my folks in Spring Hill, so I'm up regularly. Just not for album delivery deadlines, #1 parties, artist meetings and all that hoohah
That's a sweet ride, the smile stays on (except when only crap music is on the radio) then you just turn off the radio and listen to exhaust smile resumes.
