Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

56 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello fellow enthusiasts, I'm on the hunt for a 996 mk1 or mk2 with factory aerokit. Specifically a MK1 GR/black with sport seats and manual. I'm open to other options, specs. Currently own a Miami blue 991.2, a 944 turbo, an 86 928s and a GR 964 c4 I know I'm a little late to the 996 bandwagon, but Ive always loved the aerokit cars. I just missed an opportunity to buy a yellow one locally by 15 mins. Still super bummed. Please reach out here or 8013368955 TIA xx cross-post xx

POST 2Original post

i will trade you my 996.1 manual with sport seats for your 991 😁

POST 3Original post

That is funny, I was thinking the same thing...Then I thought about it some more and realized that I would sell any of my cars before my 996. nategracey, I think you have realized what some of us have realized long ago. The 996 Factory Aero (particularly in yellow) is probably one of the most desireable Porsches ever behind maybe the 996 GT3/RS. But then again I am partial.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Man you guys are killing me. Who knew I would fall so hard for a 996?? Hope I'm not too late to the game. Your cars are beautiful!!

POST 6Original post

Mine doesnt have the aero kit, but its a 6 speed manual, Arctic silver with dark grey interior if youre interested.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 16380812

Definitely not. You're no stranger to Porsches so you're no stranger to "the waiting game." That's the only game you'll be playing. You'll get one and at a great price, they're still ideal. Keep your eye on Bring a Trailer.com, all of the online classified sites, and I bet by the end of 2020 you'll have your car. Best of luck!

POST 10Original post

I have close to what you are looking for (have the stock seats, although not sport). It's never been on the track....

POST 11Original post

I hear you guys on the 996.2 aero. just bought mine on Saturday. My first Porsche, i think i started this out right! I do want some sport seats eventually. Stock comforts are ok, i am used to much more bolstered seats in my bmws

Just don't google the VIN as I did. Posted my findings in the "How much value does an Aero kit add?" thread

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 16382199

Wow. Would you want to post this in the BaT auction comments? Pretty shady. None of it is mentioned.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 16382242

Ehh I don't want to sh** all over the guys auction. Caveat emptor as they say

POST 20Original post

Sporting some serious body damage back in '14 does show the sport seats in the interior though. .

Ryan Friedman Motor Cars has a 2002 996TT with an aero kit. The car has 9k miles and is as new. i just bought an 04 Turbo from him. He is a very knowledgeable Porsche guy. The car is artic silver with black interior. If you call him tell him Dan sent you. Good luck. https://www.ryanfriedmanmotorcars.co...urbo-c-637.htm Here's the link

The cat's out of the bag...Going to be interesting to see how this one plays out. It's will be a good buy under $13K, but a DME report would be a must.

" 10sbums (The Seller) 21 @63gearhead : A few photos have been added. I will look for more when I get home. No, the car has a Clean Title (and always has, verified by CarFax and PoNA"

POST 29Original post

Glad this thread made it to BaT, it's a service to potential owners. Seller is really riding the "Clean title/Carfax" factor. Which, while true, really ignores the fact it was bought on Ebay damaged and without engine and transmission. " What I have is a Clear California Title and a CarFax Report to substantiate the Clear Title in hand. BaT cleared this in their initial screening of the vehicle by requesting a copy of both the Clear Title and the CarFax report. I will request BaT to add a copy of the Title to the ad." POST 30Original post

I bet that motor was not a brand new replacement but an AT found through a dismantler. Who knows how many miles it has with out documentation of a purchase from Porsche? Is it me or does the damage look more like vandalism vs accident? Looks like a bat was taken to it.

POST 31Original post

I believe its been documented as being stolen. I just assume the damage happened as part of the theft, not an actual crash. Really calls anything BaT says into question IMO.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 16385673

Maybe I'm over analyzing but the seller might be trying to be a bit of a weasel and say "Hey, yes the Carfax shows a Theft History, but it's a clean Title". Sure even though it was stolen, damaged, had a replacement motor put in, and repaired...at least the title is clean!

POST 33Original post

Ill admit I slightly overpaid for my low mileage 03 c4s and that I bought it directly from a Porsche dealer, but it was my 1st venture into the world of sports cars and I hadnt found RL yet. Now that posts on RL have opened my eyes to how shady some private sellers can be and how serious issues can be hidden or explained away as something not serious, i dont feel as bad about overpaying a little. I had someone with a reputation to maintain on the other side of my transaction and that gave me some peace of mind. 11,000 trouble free spirited miles in 10 months.

POST 34Original post

It's not always overpaying. Getting stuff up to snuff cost big bucks.

POST 35Original post

Someone picked up the fact the center console horse shoe is from a Boxster. I didn't know there was a difference *goes and checks my own 996*

POST 36Original post

I think what irks me the most is how obtuse the seller is being after all this comes to light As well as BaT being complicit.

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 16385761

There is nothing wrong with paying top dollar for top quality. These cars are a "PAY ME NOW, OR PAY ME LATER". The total out lay of cash is the same.

POST 38Original post

Quotes source post: 16385852

I totally agree. I paid 28k for my 2003 last weekend. That is about at the top of the market. I knew the owner, knew the shop that had just done the 6700 in engine out work. I would much rather pay for a solid car then have to sort things out. Been there way too many times in the bmw world.

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 16386036

I know other people were wondering what you paid You my fellow RL member got a great deal, did you buy it from a dealer for that much? That is really a goodbuy, That car would bring easy $30K-$33K at Mecum or Barrett Jackson or a well respected dealership

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 16386205

private party, even better. and thanks that makes me feel good. it has 63k miles on it, but you would be hard pressed to tell... I did some research on prices and this seemed reasonable. Its had when people think these cars are all 15k. However i got super lucky at the dmv, i think they valued it at 10k for the sales tax. SCORE!

POST 43Original post

Dude is still hanging on to his clean title, minor damage story. Kinda lost a little faith in BaT.

POST 44Original post

Quotes source post: 16389200

+1, I have seen them cancel auctions over much less. Don't know why they're fooling around with this one.

POST 45Original post

Quotes source post: 16389200

This guy is out of his mind. I do wonder if you purchased it, unknowingly, and found it was salvaged, would it qualify for the infamous Carfax "Buyback Guarantee?"

POST 46Original post

Wonder who he bought it from? Car might be a great buy, why deny factual evidence about its past.

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for your responses. Still searching! Probably going to put the 991 up for sale soon. Nate

POST 48 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16381069

LOL, couldn't care less. Magnus is why I mentioned I hope I'm not too late. Ive been wanting a non turbo aero for a couple years now. Hopefully I can still snag one before they shoot up to 40k like the 964s did. Then again, its about time certain 996 cars get some love. I heard a seller the other day on youtube describe them as "the first water-cooled Porsches" I guess that's a good thing now? Cool with me.
