Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
If the solenoid engaging but not locking the cover, usually the problem is the small rubber grommet is missing/deteriorated.
Leading evidence: 'small rubber grommet is missing/deteriorated' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'small rubber grommet is missing/deteriorated' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Discovered my gas cap cover missing this morning
. Must of have last night at the theater. I found a replacement on Ebay but I do not see how they connect. Any thoughts?
Ebay replacement
Look at this illustration/diagram:

It looks like your #6 (spring) is sitting next to your gas cap. That sort of clips around the two hinge halves (one connected to the door, the other to the body) and holds them together. Good luck
"Vandalized at the Theater" ????
What's your proof/evidence that the car was vandalized? Yes, I see the cover missing, but as the ol' Wendy's commercial used to say, "Where's the Beef?!!!"

Yikes and I was mad when someone spat on my car. People suck. Go back to the theatre and look in the bushes for your cover. If a kid did it he either just chucked it somewhere or if you're not lucky took it behind the dumpster to burn it.
The cover should have also locked when you locked the doors. Did you leave it open or maybe your cover solenoid doesn’t work?
If the solenoid engaging but not locking the cover, usually the problem is the small rubber grommet is missing/deteriorated. Easy fix for next time.
My theory is simple. While it may seem easy and quick to blame some Porsche jealous thief, there is no evidence of force of prying open and/or breaking off the fuel filler cover.
IMHO, the cover fell off. The hinge is made of plastic. My bet is that the plastic cracked and popped off.
Proof of my theory? Answer - it happened to me.
