Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace oil' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace ...why question it' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. There's a good reason for 6 month oil changes...Why question it?

So, I am going to dump the oil in spring, change filter and replace drain plug with ln one I got a couple months ago.

If you are changing the drain plug get a magnetic one if that isn't what you have.

Recommendations are that oil should be changed every 6 months, regardless of mileage.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 996, 46000 miles. RMS, IMS solution done at around 44000 miles, 18 months ago. Oil was changed October 15. Car was driven 5 miles. Parked for storage. Car will not be driven until May 1 (we are away for most of April). I am planning on changing the oil and filter before driving for the season. I expect to put no more than 3000 miles on the car over the season.
For the record, I'm not trolling. Recommendations are that oil should be changed every 6 months, regardless of mileage. So, reality is that in Toronto, there is snow/salt for 6 months. The car is not even started. I change the oil myself, drove the car 5 miles to circulate the fuel stabilizer. And parked it.
Does the oil really go bad?
With only 5 miles on the oil, I wouldn't worry about it - especially if your only going to drive it 3000 mi. for the season. Drive it and change it at 3000 mi. (don't let it sit with "old" oil in it at the end of the season). More important is that when you drive it, make sure you get it up to full temp and drive it at full temp (for a 1/2 hr or so). short 5 minute trips are the worst thing for the oil and engine in general because it never gets up to temp, which leads to condensation in the oil which becomes acidic etc.
I live in Toronto, 5 miles is a 20 minute drive lol.
I actually drove around until the car came up to full operating temperature. NAPA only had the platinum oil filter. So, I am going to dump the oil in spring, change filter and replace drain plug with ln one I got a couple months ago.
