I haven't found any good aftermarket kits either -- the Xenon bulbs (basically regular halogen bulbs thas have been filled with Xenon gas) sold on eBay are not worth the money IMO.

A buddy told me that when he tried to replace the halogen headlights in his '02 996 with the bi-xenon headlights he got a fault code in the dash.

Did anyone ever come to a conclusion as to what is needed to get the high and low beams and fog lights working using OEM xenon lenses on a halogen wired car?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

No. It's not a trick question. The Porsche Litronics Retrofit Kit is only for 1998 - 2001 996 cars (except the Turbo). I haven't found any good aftermarket kits either -- the Xenon bulbs (basically regular halogen bulbs thas have been filled with Xenon gas) sold on eBay are not worth the money IMO.
It's not a big deal.... You'll have to upgrade your wiring harnesses so you don't fry anything and you'll need the extra pins that the Xenon headlamps require. I've sold many of these to fellows working on the facelift conversion.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions or need anything...

Hi Eli,
A buddy told me that when he tried to replace the halogen headlights in his '02 996 with the bi-xenon headlights he got a fault code in the dash. He said it is because he didn't have the auto-level sensors in the car and the computer was looking for it. Could it be that he just wired the headlights wrong (e.g. he did not use the "extra pins" like you said)? He gave up and sold the bi-xenon headlights on eBay and stuck with his halogen headlights.
Thanks,
From what is current the auto-levels will be the only thing missing on the conversion.... That is the only draw back.... Someone local to the shop is tinkering with the auto-levels right now to see what he can come up with "possible solution" but it's still in the R&D stages....

I just wanted to revive the thread because I couldn't find a newer thread on this topic. I have a 2002 (face lifted) halogen headlights and I would like to upgrade to double xenon. I see a lot of discussion about upgrading to Litronics, and I understand the pros/cons of doing that. However, with so many high quality double xenon projectors on the market, I am wondering if anyone has successfully just swapped the projector. I looked at this website (
https://www.retrofitlab.com/en/porsc...eadlights.html
) and they say that EvoX-R 2.0 is a plug and play projector and can be installed without baking open the headlight. (See the Specs & Compatibility tab). I am guessing that if it was that easy to do than many people would have done it already, but I can't seem to find any confirmation of that.
Do another search of the forums. There are several threads that outline the process (there was one fairly recently - within the last month). There used to be a guy that made kits (he was on the boxster forum) - but he didn't last very long (I think Pelican parts picked them up for a very brief period). Good Luck
I have the mentioned retrofitlab evo units here at home. They are not a straightforward swap as far as I tried. I will need to bring the units to someone who has more skills then me to do it for me. And as I can see they need to be baked and opened.
Did anyone ever come to a conclusion as to what is needed to get the high and low beams and fog lights working using OEM xenon lenses on a halogen wired car? I have a 996.2 and just installed xenon lenses. Do I need to get the litronic wiring harnesses? What about control modules, or are those only for pre-facelift cars?
