I further suspect the issue is the switch, as it does not allow for that movement at the forward part of the toggle.

If it's one of the motors, you need to remove the seat and check which motor it is.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Folks - in the 02 targa I am getting a battery drain that is enough to kill the new battery in 5 days. I noticed that there is a repeating every 15-30 seconds or so; a relay click on, the off immediately. Sound is coming I think from passenger seat, or under the seat in that area. Car is completely stock including radio, engine recently redone at the dealer. Pass seat works fine, all switches were operated and confirmed functional including seat heat. Noise is there when driving, engine-running and stationary, and even with the car off and doors open. I have yet to check if it's there when alarm is on and car is all locked up - but I figure it must be with the battery drain. Any common wisdom on where to look?

POST 2Original post

Do you have memory seats? There should not be any relay in that area. i suspect your motors is stuck. When it happens again, remove fuses E3, E4, E2, and B5 in that order one by one until the clicking stops. If any of the fuses cause it to stop, put an DVM in series with the fuse and measure the current drawn. If it's one of the motors, you need to remove the seat and check which motor it is.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Awesome many thanks will report back after testing!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And the winner is...... E4!!!!! Drove it home after playing some guitar at the local watering hole. Pulled into the garage, got my head down in the footwell and it's very clearly a seat motor. Verification by touch affirmed that the forward-most motor nearest trans tunnel is freakin' hot! I suspect it is the motor for raising/lowering the forward edge of the seat. I further suspect the issue is the switch, as it does not allow for that movement at the forward part of the toggle. E4 pulled resulting in no more clicking aka: blissful silence, and I expect battery drain will be a normal specification over time. Tonight, I think I'm pulling that seat to disable just that specific motor and then go from there. You guys rock - mucho thanks.

POST 5Original post

All right! If you have memory seats, the motors are controlled by the seat control module thus each motor also has a position sensor inside (which may be what's broken). If you do not have memory seats, the motors are only powered and controlled by the switches on the seat so maybe the contacts inside those switches are sticky.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have Driver's side memory seats yes. I do not see a passenger-side seat memory set of buttons. Does this mean that the pass-seat is governed via the control-module, or the pass-seat (sans memory itself) is more the dumb-switch variety Pulling the seats would not be any big deal - I bet getting the rail trim strips off without breaking/cracking them will be the 'hardest' part of the effort.

POST 7Original post

Then the pass-seat should only be controlled by the switches on it then. I hope you have Durametric to clear the airbag light in case you need to put the car key in the ignition switch to turn ON the power when the seat is out.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well that was definitely the issue. Left the car for 12-days due to holiday travel and came home to find it happily in sleep-mode. I unlocked with the key, and she fired right up. So time to disconnect that one drive motor and re-enable the rest of the seat!
