Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If after the above, if the engine never exhibited any scary noises from a dead cold start to after your test drive as you let the engine idle some, if the rest of the car behaved ok, then give the car a thorough used car check out verifying everything works.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well im looking at buying a 2003 c4s on Monday its 14,950
and the Milage is 131k
new clutch and flywheel at92k and major24k service at 122k in 2013.
then at 129k new discs pads front and rear air con condensors & radiator.
I just worry there are so many reports of bore scoring, and other things with a car of that milage has anyone got one about that milage and any problems due to milage ( altho its 11 years old and thats only @11k a year )
any advise truly welcomed.
That the car has made it to 131K miles and assuming your check out of the car finds no reason to reject it, that suggests the car has been taken pretty good care of and is unlikely to suffer from any of that bore scoring whacamacallit.
Besides, this bore scoring is reported to be a problem with newer cars, those with the new DFI engine.
Also, keep in mind that while thousands of vehicles are reported to be at risk from this bore scoring, as stated by a spokesman for one company in the UK that appears to be at the forefront of this bore scoring issue, this same company is willing to sell each and every owner of one of these at risk cars with some kind of service plan or extended service contract.
No one can tell you with any certainty the engine is not at some risk from some fatal failure. The engine is only as good as its weakest part and if that part lets go and happens to be a critical part, like a rod bolt, or a cam chain link, or a valve, and last but not least the IMSB, to name a few the engine could suffer a fatal failure.
But the same could be said about any other 11 year old car with 131K miles. For just about every car I've owned since from the time before the Internet, when BBS's were in vogue, to now at every forum for any car there are a goodly number of reports of problems, some serious. Even for cars I do not own, but am interested in arising from my work, my research turns up a few, at least one, serious problem experienced by a few unfortunate owners, that is one wanted to he could justify not buying any used out of warranty car for fear of it suffering a serious problem.
Give the car a good check out. Have the seller take you on a 15 mile test ride and demo the car as you intend to use it. There would be some stop and go driving, some steady speed cruising, some hard acceleration and braking events.
Back at the starting place then you take the car out as a driver and drive the car over the same 15 mile route and drive the car the same way.
If after the above, if the engine never exhibited any scary noises from a dead cold start to after your test drive as you let the engine idle some, if the rest of the car behaved ok, then give the car a thorough used car check out verifying everything works.
After all of the above, if you still like the car and believe you can buy it for an agreeable sum of money, arrange to have the car PPI'd by someone very knowledgeable about these cars.
If you get the green light then buy the car. Avoid paying too much. Enjoy the car, drive the car, for that is what you bought it for. Also, take reasonable care of the car.
I would be very much tempted to add $5000 to your paying price and look for something with half of that mileage. They are out there. That's only me of course.
I agree with Hurdi. $24K dollars /15K pounds should allow you to find some lower mileage cars and since everything wears out with mileage, I would look for something younger too.
