Thanks Porschetech3, thats whats been getting me is that between my research of PST2, then PIWIS I and then PIWIS II the way to activate the CD changer has...changed haha!

Folks who have replaced their PCM2 with a PCCM + retain that functionality.

MMI stands for Man Machine Interface, GW stands for Gateway, just some terminology used with PCM2.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Interesting about the key and disconnecting the battery I've also noticed that only locking the car and leaving it for a minute or two turns off the most.

Hey all,
My local dealership has agreed to attempt to enable the CD changer (as my car - 04' C2 doesn't have one) to finish off my Dension Gateway 500 + BTA1500 Bluetooth unit install but I have a few questions:
1. Does anyone have instructions or screenshots on how to enable the CD changer with a PIWIS? I've searched on Google images and on the 996 workshop manual but haven't come up with anything. Reason I ask is i'd prefer to give the tech some guidance as they aren't sure what to do.
So far i've only found this:
2. Do I complete my Dension installation and with everything connected (including the fibre optic cables) then take it in to have the CD changer enabled? I have read some very vague notes in the workshop manual that you need to compare the list of MOST components that are in the tester to what is actually installed?
I did install the Dension briefly (power and ground directly to battery) then:
head unit out -> dension in -> dension out -> amplifier in -> amplifier out -> head unit in to complete the loop.
However the sound on the radio just stopped working and the light on the Dension control unit did not turn.
I'm assuming thats because the DME didn't understand the new MOST component in the loop?
Ahhh the MOST life, the MOST difficult audio system!
Thanks!
Hey all, can anyone help with this? Dealership told me they were unable to enable my CD changer?? Help please!
I'll be going there tomorrow, should I hook up the Dension so its recognised by the PIWIS as a CD changer allowing it to be enabled in the DME??
I have only done this on my indys auto logic system. It seems you are in the diagnostic section of PIWIS, however you want to be in the "coding"/"programming" section. There, select most components (or something like that, under pcm) , and you can (in autologic) get a drop down for which components are programmed into each position. In my case, I actually had to reverse the order of programed components compared to what the "actual components" screen showed.
I would go in with the Unit attached and ready to go. Make sure you disconnect the battery for 30 seconds after you do anything to the most loop -- that resets the components, otherwise they'll be confused. Most is independent of the ignition key.
Ps: as far as I can tell components can be coded without actually being present. If a component is missing the system will continue to run, however if there are extras or the wrong order you will see problems. This is just a bad design -- on Mercedes d2b you can do the coding right in the head unit.
Good luck! If possible, get them to just add a cd changer to the enabled units. You can then play with the component order (you'll just have 3 component anyways: radio, amp and gw500) until it works, resetting between each attempt.
Thanks!
Thats an image I got off the internet I've actually never seen the PIWIS screen the dealership like to keep it under wraps!
I'll hook it all up tomorrow and hopefully it gets picked up.
Interesting about the key and disconnecting the battery I've also noticed that only locking the car and leaving it for a minute or two turns off the most.
I've been able to successfully connect it into the loop and keep the radio working so that's a plus. Just need to get the DME programmed so it thinks there is a CDC attached.
I'll keep everyone posted!
Thanks, I'll try to enable it with them before connecting it.
The order I'd like is head unit > GW500 > amp > head unit.
Hopefully I can get it sorted!
worst comes to worst you could buy a PST/PIWIS online. You can also play around with a few other settings, and if you plan to do a decent chunk of work or intend to own other p cars in the future it might be worth it.
Okay update on this and it's not great news.
The latest PIWIS from the dealership cannot turn on a CDC.
Going to have to either buy or borrow a durametric
That's a bummer. You can find convincing ... alternatives to the piwis at various friendly Asian retailers.
I have no experience with those, but a durametric will not be able to program the cd changer on a 996. I think auto logic is the only scan tool (besides those running the Porsche software one way or another) that can code the pcm MOST Devices.
Thanks, from what I've read the durametric pro might be able to. Hopefully someone with one a durametric could confirm.
I know it's been so painful just for one setting! I'll have to ask around only problem is that most good/recommended indys aren't that close to me. I'd prefer to buy the durametric as it's something that will come in handy anyway - if it can do it that is!
Okay so no good news to report, Durametric support got back to me and neither the Durametric Pro or the Durametric enthusiast version can enable the CDC.
I was able to get a list of mechanics that have an active autologic Porsche subscription (all of 2 in Melbourne!).
The first I called on the other side of town wants $125 to enable my CDC
I'm considering building my own PST2 clone but its highly unlikely that i'm going to be successful seeming the hardware and software are proving exceptionally difficult to find - which I expected
Anyone want to loan me a PST2?? Pleasssssse?
So I wish I had found this document before I went:

Page 127 talks about enabling components
Anyone have a PIWIS II I can use? The dealership wont let me use theirs...
It looks a lot more confusing than it really is, A lot of the confusion is just with the verbiage or translation. Just doing it will become more intuitive if you have the goal in mind. The PIWIS tester will not damage or do anything that cannot be undone, just REMEMBER or RECORD what you do !! lol
I did have one instance where the PIWIS tester did nearly cause me to have to replace a DME in a new 997.2 with PDK. The first PDK that came into our dealership off the truck . It came off the truck and the PDK would lurch, the rev would flash up between shifts and jerk, shifted like **** and had numerous codes. After clearing the codes and doing a trans adaption and engine adaption I decided to reprogram the DME and PDK ( they must be programmed together). I recorded the software numbers and reprogrammed, the software that was in the PIWIS latest release was a lesser version than the car that just came off the truck !! Porsche told me that I would need to replace the DME to get the latest software( that came in the car) because it was not yet available to the shop/aftersales !! So Porsche ordered me a new DME straight off the assembly line, BUT the lastest update for the PIWIS came in first, so I was able to reprogram it back to the latest version instead ....
Anyway just remember to put all MOST components in order and do not have any extra's or missing components in the MOST list. When your done you will think about how easy it was.
Thanks Porschetech3, I have a few questions us recording the same as creating a VAL - vehicle activity log? Or by recording do you mean writing/screenshotting everything?
Also my required components vs actual components will differ as I don't have a cd changer I just need the car to expect one (so I can use the Dension) .
The screenshot above is me just using the simulation mode until my PIWIS II arrives.
Thanks!
Creating a VAL is a good thing, it will have all your "before" codeing on it .and also screenshotting everything you change will make changing anything back to original configuration much quicker.
Since the PIWIS tester has no provision to include the Demison in the MOST loop, you will enter CD Changer in the position for the Demison, The Gateway will recognize it as a "possible" CD Changer. But it will communicate with it.
Thanks Porschetech3, so ill enable the CDC with the Dension connected in the MOST loop?
So just to confirm:
1. Plug in Dension - ensure radio is working with Dension unit connected
2. Plug in PIWIS II
3. Create VAL + screenshot as I go
4. Select "CDR-23" or "Gateway"? from Overview and select -> maintenance repairs -> Expected MOST -> CD changer - Enabled - Write changes
From my research simulation mode uses options/values from a car that was previously plugged in?
In the simulation mode that I have (where I got the screenshot above) for 996 it's got "PCM2 MMI" but my car has a CDR-23 with an amplifier so would the setting still be under PCM2 MMI or CDR-23? I tried to look at the 986 but it too had PCM2 as an option without CDR-23. I also tried 997 in simulation mode but the MOST settings were under "gateway".
Going by memory from what I saw when we plugged it in at the dealership there was CDR-23 but we didnt click on the Maintenance/repairs tab!
PCM2 is the "big screen" optional radio, yours will show up as CDR-23
Do a complete system scan , with everything plugged up, the PIWIS should recognize the CDR-23 and may have a # symbol indicating a fault code. Enter into the CDR-23/ maintenance repair menu, don't be afraid to look around at the lists, only one list will show you the positions 1-5 and have provisions for you to change /add/remove components or positions, the other is for showing the actual list as discovered by the CDR-23, or the required list . These lists cannot be changed, and are for information only.
Changing the MOST components position or adding/removing components is the only operation you can perform in this section of the tester, so don't be afraid. The other things you can do is to test MOST function, test speakers, test tone, test volume, test antenna signal, test radio display ect. None of this can do any harm.
Thanks for that, thought mine would be under the CDR-23 option much appreciated!
I just got a little confused as the "actual/expected MOST" option was under "PCM2 MMI" and there was also another option called "PCM2" but the MOST settings wern't under that.
I though there might be a "CDR-23 MMI" option and as I don't actually have the PIWIS yet just trying to gather all the info I can
MMI stands for Man Machine Interface, GW stands for Gateway, just some terminology used with PCM2.
I think you have just the right amount of knowledge to perform this without a problem, just don't get too caught up in the details and keep the main goal in mind, (to add a component to the MOST loop) Explore the lists of information and get a little familiar with what your looking at , then do the addition of the CD Changer (Demison) and go back and look at the lists again.
I would give you step by step instructions, but I don't have them memorized, they can change with version to version of the software. I've been retired for 3 years after having open heart surgery so it's been a while since I have performed one of these operations. Although it has never really been necessary to memorize the steps or I would have had them memorized, also the steps can change as the software is updated !! lol And the functions can change as the software changes, I have seen many functions added with software version Xyz but other functions that were previously there had not been carried over !! I think you got the steps close enough, you will figure out the rest as you go, you have a good grasp of what to do.
Just hook every thing up as it's supposed to be so that it can be recognized, then go in and add the CD Changer in the position in the loop, then check the actual list to see that it's indeed in the loop and in correct position and being recognized, then clear all faults.
Note that the "enthusiast" version of Durametric has almost no "activation" functionality. Durametric enabled the OBC setting in both versions, but (I believe) the Pro version is required to enable any other equipment.
Thanks Porschetech3, thats whats been getting me is that between my research of PST2, then PIWIS I and then PIWIS II the way to activate the CD changer has...changed haha! Then again its in a different menu for the 996 and 997 in PIWIS II. Anyway i'm fascinated by the PIWIS and the software so when it arrives ill do a write up with some notes so that dealerships won't tell 996 owners "it can't be done".
I'll keep everyone posted
Thanks 5CHN3LL, I contacted Durametric as i've been looking for an excuse to purchase one but they advised neither the Enthusiast or the Pro version can perform MOST functions (like enable the CDC) which is a shame because I would have bought one if it did.

Really easy, thanks for your help!
I want to learn how to code a new key next but I don't think the dealership will give me the learning code/ipass to my car
Your welcome !!
Yea you not be able to get the ipass/learning code from them. Those are protected very well, only the Service manager or lead tech/Gold Meister tech will have access and probably will not give them up, maybe some sort of legal issue but I never gave then up,of course I never had a customer/owner with his own PIWIS II ask for them..lol
I know this is an old thread, but does anybody know how to program/code the new PCCM + using a PIWI 2 into the system? What I am trying to accomplish is to have the navigation information from the PCCM + display in the instrument cluster. I realize that the PCCM + is pretty much plug and play out of the box and requires no coding, but in order to get the function I desire some coding needs to happen to get the data to the instrument cluster.
My current configuration is MOST base system with CDR-23, CDC, and Bose.
Thank you!
I am new to the PIWIS2, so I was asking how to do it. On a PST2 it would be:
8 Programming PCM2 with PST2
8.1 Activate PCM2.
8.2 Read out PCM2 fault memory and erase.
8.3 Match the MOST required installed components list to the actual installed components list.
8.4 Code the PCM2 according to vehicle type, versions, country-specific tuner settings and MOST switch.
8.5 Check MOST components.
8.6 Activate navigation in the "instrument cluster" control module system.
8.7 After programming is finished, read out the fault memory of all systems, remedy any existing faults, and erase fault memory
I am not sure how to do it with my PIWIS2. Does the PIWIS have to call a Porsche online account? Is the command structure like the PST2?
PST2 and PIWIS2 are very similar and now PIWIS3 is similar to PIWIS2.
So you should be able to use the instructions you've posted. If you're unsure use the simulation mode to find what you're looking for.
Which control unit should I select? Would it just be PCM? When I used the PST2 many many years ago the selection was PCM2. But that selection doesnt exist.
The biggest road-block to using PIWIS is FEAR.
Don't be afraid to explore options, you can't DO anything, that can't be undone.( if you document what you've done)
Rules
1. Remember/log/wright down every step you take ( go back to main menu/start frequently until you are comfortable )
2. Make only one "change" at a time ( so you can reverse/remember it if undesirable change)
3. Looking at data or info or options, makes no changes
4. It should be clear when you're about to make a "change", and if in doubt always ask yourself," am I looking at data/info/options, or am I fixing to make a "change'.
5. You will never learn or get used to PIWIS if you don't explore/play/investigate with it. It has a VAST amount of info/ functions/abilities.
