For the money I would want pristine appearance, a clean PPI and a ton of receipts.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking at a 01 C4 with Factory Aero kit, artic silver metallic black interior, beautiful condition. ims/rms/aos along with clutch, plugs, coils, belts and fluids within last month. 47k miles, heated seats, full supple leather, technic package, psm and design package. Paint gun says some respray on passenger side, carfax is clean 2 owners. Priced at 32.9k does this seem reasonable or over priced? I have been on a long 996 search. This is by far the nicest I have seen but way higher than what I had been looking at. Any thoughts are appreciated!
Your observations have been borne out in the pricing. The by far nicest example you have found is by far the most expensive. The old, sometimes you get what you pay for would seem to be in play here. By your statement that you have been looking for a long time, I gather you are a discerning individual. If you can swing the $32k, seems like you have found your dance partner.
What color is it , when you say respray on the passenger side is it front fender door and rear fender, can you see spray edges on the inside of the fender and or door? Can it be polished out or will it need respray?
It is artic silver metallic. I should have said the paint readings were lower on those areas and were repainted. The work was done well and there is no need for any type of correction, it is just that the paint is not all original. You could not tell without the paint thickness gauge. No accidents on carfax.
Sounds on par with what the 996 market is looking like lately. Factory aero C4, lower mileage, nice options, with ims and all that fun stuff already taken care of makes it easy to hop in and drive. Respray can or can't make a difference considering some will care and some wouldn't. If it was done well, I know I wouldn't.
I think pricing on the extremes gets hard; you get diminishing returns for your money the nicer the example and even the crappiest example will still fetch something. Thats not to say its not worth getting a super nice example of a car; its just some people will chime in about how good of a car they got for $25,000 but it probably wont be as nice as the one youre describing. Get a PPI, drive it, take one last look at comparably prices cars and decide.
Theres no doubt that 996s are appreciating. That being said, this seems steep to me. Id say itd be worth that much if the paint was original. The respray is negotiation material to get the price down where it belongs, which is probably more like $28-29k.
All the work done recently is easily $5k-$7.5k at a minimum, so if you can negotiate down a few grand i think its a decent deal. These aren't bought as an investment, they are bought to have FUN with.

The Aero 4's are great cars. I drove one when I was on my quest and loved everything about it.
I think for that $ get a bore scope done and if it all checks out try to get some money off for the respray. If they balk at the reduction I would probably pull the trigger. I have never seen a C4 aero car
I'm not sure that there's been any sort of quantitative study, but I'd say NO - unless you're talking about the smaller displacement M96's or cylinders with Nickasyl plating bore scoring is always an issue. FWIW I had a M96-04 with not only bore scoring but one sleeved cylinder as well (which means it probably had a D chunk or crack as well) - that being said, they were still able to machine the block for Nickies...
overpriced - especially for a car with paint work and the boring silver/black combo.
I sold my car last year for 27.5k - and arguably a much more interesting set of options and original paint / all maintenance including IMS done:

Maybe prices went up since then - but in the $30k range you're either at C4S money or 997.1 territory.
The 01 aero sold before I pulled the trigger. Having some regret! Now looking at a 99 with limited slip differential and only 38k miles not many other option other than power seats. Has a build date of 10/98 last numbers of serial code are XXS624367. Just had ims/rms/aos just done. Condition is above average with asking price 29.9. Any thoughts?
Full docs/Maintenance history? $29.9 is HIGH for a low optioned silver/black car regardless of miles (That kind of milage on a 21 year old car says to me that it sat around a lot, perhaps for long periods of time without maintenance, oil changes etc. - worst thing for these cars) get a PPI, get the bores scoped from the bottom ... Good luck
Imho, a factory XAA Aerokit adds about $5k value to a 996. So subtract that number from the asking price and see how you feel about that. Thats generally what I do. YMMV.
Yes. One function of scoring in all engines is rod ratio which is a function of piston diameter and rod length. The smaller bore with better rod ratio is less susceptible to piston rocking in the cylinder.
Does it mean much at the end of the day for the M96 engines? Probably less than the cylinder bore coating and fuel washing away the oil. There are bigger issues at play than the bore size here.
