Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New to the 911 community and this forum. Recently purchased a 996 911 Turbo, and have a Check Engine Light after driving her twice. My OBD II reader will not read the code. Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality code reader to read Porsche codes for this car? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

http://www.durametric.com/ maybe more than you need but this is worth having if you will be owning a Porsche for a long time

POST 3Original post

+1 on Durametric. I just ordered the cable and bought a cheap refurbished laptop and I'm all set. It's something you can always resell possibly quite easily.

I have an elcheapo OBDII scanner and it works fine to read/erase codes. I think I paid around $50 from Autozone. I leave that in the door pocket for quick read/erase. I also have Durametric for more refined work. I also have a Foxwell NT510, which you can buy off Amazon and go to their website and buy the Porsche software (or order it with it already installed). I use that on my Mini and Porsche. Works great with the specific software. If I were to recommend one, it is Durametric. Well worth the price.

POST 5Original post

I have three, a centek (Harbor Freight) one for easy jobs but also have durametic that is pretty good but believe it or not there are things I couldn't do that I was able to do with my iCarsoft POR-II. which is like $200. If I had to buy one I would go with iCarSoft.

Thanks so much to all of you.

Hope ETA does no harm down there this weekend! Stay safe.

POST 9Original post

I use the FIXD plug in. It works great for what it is. It'll also allow you to reset the check engine light.

POST 11Original post

There are also some threads with people purchasing the PIWIS clone. It is essentially the factory scan tool with cloned software. Debating one of those or a Durametric currently. Ultimately, Durametric is the safe choice with support. I think that if you can find someone else on Rennlist to pair up with you and you call up Durametric and order 2, they will give you a discount on the unit. Something to keep in mind. You would need to purchase both, take payment from the other person on Rennlist then ship them their unit. https://rennlist.com/forums/panamera...piwis-iii.html
