Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been using Mobil 1 0W40 in my 996 from day 1. For the first time a few days ago I used the new Porsche Classic Engine Oil 5W50. Whereas before my hot idle oil pressure would be 1.5bar it now appears to be 2bar. Bearing in mind I have only done like 50 miles so far with this new engine oil is that normal /expected ?

POST 3Original post

Most of the synthetic base stock is made and produced by Mobil, and other companies re-brand it and as such all American and JASO manufacturer specifications in 2010 brought about severe restrictions in Magnesium, Phosphorous, and Zinc ( MPZ) and along with the very small molecule size that will cause accelerated engine and component wear. However, do not overlook the use of ethyl alcohol (ethanol) in our fuels at a minimum of 10%. The fact is that ethanol also removes the lubricity from the upper cylinder during the burn cycle. Adding to this nightmare is that ethanol is hygroscopic ( absorbs water ) and carries this into the combustion chamber. When ignition occurs mineral deposits are left behind as well as producing formic acid which tends to damage fuel systems and injectors. However, when they removed sulfur the sulfur content from 130ppm to only 30ppm and since sulfur was a high lubricant for the upper cylinder areas and now gets 77% less lubricity it causes bore and ring wear as well as the life of fuel pumps and injectors.
