I think there's plenty of depth in the door itself - the limit on the depth is due to the "sub enclosure"...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For the front door speakers (non bose enclosure), I understand that the maximum depth for the 5.25" is about 2.18". I got some aftermarket speakers that are 2.40 inches. Do anyone know if there will be a door panel clearance issue if I fit a .25 or 1/4" inch spacer on the speakers? I think that is about 5mm. Thanks,

POST 2Original post

I think there's plenty of depth in the door itself - the limit on the depth is due to the "sub enclosure"... you may be able to modify it (cut out room for the magnet and put your spacer on the back of the enclosure where the magnet pokes through - glue the cutout to the spacer...)

Thanks for the suggestion. I will play around with that idea if the spacers don't work. I try to avoid cutting much of anything. Thanks.

Just be careful about the speakers you use if you have the factory amp. When I was replacing my stereo (left the stock amp and speakers in) I noticed that they have the amp sending only bass to the door speakers while the high frequencies go to the dash speakers. They're using the door speakers as mini subwoofers I guess. If you put in speakers that don't handle bass well, you might get crap sound. Of course, if there's no amp, this probably doesn't apply.

Also keep in mind that the stock door woofers are 2 ohm which can make selection somewhat limited. FWIW, here's the depth of the stock door speaker.

Cool, Thanks for the picture. Looks like it can fit at least a depth of 60mm which is approx. 2.36 inches. That is very close to my 2.40 inches that the speaker in come have. I wonder how much play there is in the back of the speakers until it touches. Its interesting because on Crutchfield, the Morel 502 shows does not fit with a depth of 2.25 inches, but the Morel maximo 5 shows that it fit with a depth of 2 3/16" I will report back to see if my 2.4 inches speakers fit with no issue.... Just to clarify, Are those bose speakers you have or the regular hifi speakers?

POST 7Original post

^^^ Hi-Fi... Pull the door apart and see what's going on there, before you get too far in formulating a plan or buying components. Yes, the door speakers are subs - low frequencies only.

POST 8Original post

I have the non-Bose "hi fi" option.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lol, I pulled it out twice the last two weeks, and never had I thought to measure it. Sigh..... I have a mini alpine power pack amp that is hiding behind the radio so the speakers will be powered straight from the amp.

POST 10Original post

I put Focal Utopia 13, 5' Shallow Bass in the doors and the stated depth for them is 2 5/8". Fit without a problem.

POST 11Original post

While I'm sure the Focal's are great, the price is on the steep side... In the past these (Tang Band) have been the "go to" for people upgrading/replacing the door subwoofers https://www.parts-express.com/tang-b...xoCTpQQAvD_BwE Though I haven't done them myself, many others have had success with these. I'm not sure about the effect of 4 ohms vs 2 (perhaps lower output?) but others have said they didn't notice much if any difference.

POST 12Original post

Yeah, I agree on the Focal prices. I was just referencing for the depth.
