Certainly wasn't trying to lowball you - I've bought several sets of used wheels over the years for different European cars for $500 or less, so I agreed with Dennis that that's about what they're worth.

The $500 price quoted by others is waaaaay too low, especially for a set with tires.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2002 Cab. The current owner has an extra set of wheels/tires that are included with the sale (option 411: 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel) with Nexen 3000N Ultra High Performance tires (plenty of tread) sized 265/35ZR18 (rear) and 225/45ZR18 (front). It's going to be tight fitting them in the 996 for the drive home, but based on information I've found on RL, I should be able to squeeze in all four (just). Now my question is how much are these wheels/tires worth? I know used tires don't fetch much, they will likely just be a bonus for the purchaser. I would like to keep them as a backup, but prefer the look of the 19's he currently has installed and don't have the space to store a full set. Thanks! Looking forward to picking up my first Porsche next week!

POST 2Original post

I wouldn't give more than $500. Remember that you're doing the seller a favor by getting them out of his garage. If he wants more than that, then he should sell them separately. Nexen isn't a Porsche approved tire, so I don't care how much tread it has - it would have very little value to me.

POST 3Original post

+1 The storage of wheels to a car you no longer own would be a pain. Shipping wheels after you sell them is a pain. Selling used wheels is a... wait... how much is he paying you to take them? haha Best of luck in your purchase!

POST 4Original post

If you are driving through Kansas City on your way home, I might be interested in buying them off of you. I like those wheels. Nexens are probably not worth much - those tires brand new are about $100 each. I put a set of the Nexen 3000Ns on a Mitsubishi Eclipse I had a couple of years ago just before I sold it because I had one tire get destroyed and couldn't get a match. Let's just say there is a reason they are cheap. But, assuming the wheels are in nice shape, I'm interested. I'd pay the $500 that Dennis thinks they are worth.

POST 5Original post

For reference, I purchased as set of "as new" 18" take off wheels from my local Porsche dealer for my Cayenne. I used them with my winter tires. I paid $500 for those, not including center caps.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I figured they would be worth around $500. I'm actually buying the car in Tulsa, but going East/South to Atlanta. kcattorney, if you are legitimately interested, I could potentially meet you part way between Tulsa and KS? I don't know that I want to make my 800 miles trip into a 1,000+ mile trip. Since the tires are basically worthless, I might pulled them off the rims to make packing everything in easier. Here's a pictures of the wheels, unfortunately it's the best I have.

POST 7Original post

If you crack a rear one and need to replace it in a hurry it will cost you ~500 to get a good used one. I think those wheels are worth more like $800 for the set. Call Wheel Enhancement and ask them what they would charge you for a set of those wheels. Wheel Enhancement [phone removed] or look on Ebay They are popular with the 993 crowd too. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...+rims&_sacat=0

POST 8Original post

They are great wheels, no doubt. However, the value to a buyer might be different than the value to a seller.

POST 9Original post

fpb111 makes a good point, those wheels look great on a 993. and... even with cheap tires they are useable. I think we're saying the same thing- as a stand-alone item the wheels and tires are probably worth $800 (or more) to the right person. As part of a package (an add-on with the purchase of a car) they bring $0-$500 worth of additional value.

POST 10Original post

I'm interested in the wheels. Tires are the wrong size for a 2002 996. Seems the buyer chose "Whatever's the cheapest tire ya got". I hope that wasn't his maintenence theory.

POST 11Original post

Hmm, I'm driving to Dallas on February 8th, and will be driving back on February 9th. I'll be driving within about 30 miles of Tulsa. I wonder if the seller would let you just leave them with him and I can swing by on my way home on the 9th and pick them up directly from him?

POST 12Original post

One of our local PCA members has those wheels on a 928. They look great!

POST 13Original post

Well, my manhole covers on the 928 don't look all that great, so I was thinking of either putting the Lightweights on the 928, or possibly putting my twists from the 996 on the 928 and putting the Lightweights on the 996. Either way, I'll put those wheels to good use. I guess if I put them on the 928, I might even be able to use those Nexen tires for a little while. I think I'm going to treat the 928 as a fair weather car and I tend to drive like a wuss when I'm in the 928. I just don't trust it like I do the 996. So far, about half my trips in the 928 end up with something breaking or it overheating. Don't get me wrong - I love the looks of the 928 and it is a really cool car. But the 996 is just a much better car for actual driving. Hopefully it works out for cmoody127 to do this deal. It would be like him getting a $500 discount on his car and then he won't have to worry about loading the wheels into his new car and hauling them back to Atlanta. Seems like a win-win.

POST 14Original post

I just paid a tiny bit little more than what FPB111 says. Destroyed a rear wheal and the singles on eBay are almost all front tires I assume because those are most often replace when people hit curbs. and agree they are $500. Bought all four with the intention of eBay-ing the others. Because the spare sucks I actually like having an extra front and rear in the garage.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I actually got an offer for $1k plus shipping. Looks like I'm hauling them home just to ship the whole set out.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 11983992

That's a fair price. The $500 price quoted by others is waaaaay too low, especially for a set with tires. I haven't really seen set go for less than $1k (with tires).

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 11983992

Those wheels were a huge option on our mk2 cars. The knock off third party replacements are $200 a piece and the cheapest I've seen a used oem is around $380. Take those bad boys and don't sell them for less than $800-1000! Not $500! But I will agree with some of these guys in saying that by the brand of those tires I would very heavily scrutinize the maintenance history of the vehicle!

POST 18Original post

When I had my 996, I looked for several months trying to find a good set of those wheels. I never saw anything under $1000. Nexen tires are junk, but just the wheels are worth $1000+.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree, the crap tires are a little concerning, but the previous owner kept very thorough records. Also, he just kept this set as a backup.

POST 20Original post

cmoody - Great that you got a better offer. If you get to Tulsa and they won't fit in the car or you don't want to mess with hauling and shipping them, then let me know. Since I'll be driving past Tulsa on February 8 & 9, it would be easy for me to stop by the seller's place and pick them up. I'll up my offer to $650 if you end up going that route. Certainly wasn't trying to lowball you - I've bought several sets of used wheels over the years for different European cars for $500 or less, so I agreed with Dennis that that's about what they're worth. But if someone else is willing to pay $1,000 for them, then that's great. For me, it's a want, not a need and I'm in no rush to swap the wheels. Just let me know if you change your mind. Congrats on the new car!

POST 21Original post

Wheels are worth whatever someone is willing to pay and so far, from feedback here, $1000
