Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion · Original poster
They recommend/ warn to 'connect vehicle to a stabilised battery'.
Leading evidence: 'Recommend / warn' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend / warn' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Recommend plugging in a booster pac or a battery charger

In that case, I highly recommend plugging in a booster pac or a battery charger with "supply mode" to the cigerette lighter socket.

i am from the old school and do not like running a battery charger with the key on.to-days electronics are much better protected but they still do not like volt/amp spikes

in your case i would run a low amp charger.....not a shop 20 amp monster.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Random question, does anyone know how long the battery will last with key in ignition and turned to position 1, ie all lights on dash on?
No interior lights on, no fan, no radio, just dash lights...
Thanks.
a small low amp charger i guess would be okay. i am from the old school and do not like running a battery charger with the key on.to-days electronics are much better protected but they still do not like volt/amp spikes
I do not know how long a typical battery will last with the key on and the engine off with no other electrical loads, but I can tell you the electrical load is pretty high even in this case.
One hour should be ok though provided the battery is in good shape.
But I have to ask why you need to connect an OBD2 reader to the car for one hour with the engine off?
ECU download, manufacturer says this may take up to 30min with reader connected to the OBD2 port and ignition must be in position 1. They recommend/ warn to 'connect vehicle to a stabilised battery'.
in your case i would run a low amp charger.....not a shop 20 amp monster. with GM cars installing a tune [slang term was "tuna ina can" ] it was a have to that your battery was up to par and a charger installed. going below a voltage threshold would require the ECM to be re-set to factory defaults
