Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

PS If I ever take my race car to a track day for testing, I'm willing to let you give it a go for a session.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

drive a Track Prepped car!!!
O M G !!
yesterday I had the horible and no doubt very costly opportunity to take a track prepped '75S out for a few minutes around the Autocross - I am screwed!! The experience forever sent me spiraling into the abiss of heading towards a lighter more raw car.....
If you have the chance DONT DO IT !!
(you will not want your car back and you will be looking for more ways to increase the "mod budget" - poor family will NOT be getting a few of the things they "thought" they needed, like food and stuff !!
)
Heed my warning - if you "like" your car - dont drive one that is more raw

There's nothing like firing up your car and being treated to a 100 decibel start up sound that rattles windows and lets everyone within a mile know: "Here is a race car"
Puts a smile on my face every time. Sure the 4S might be slower than a 997 or an E92 M3, but it is 100 times the fun.
Yep put a bed in the garage now.
Just take everything out of your car and put the futon you'll sleep on in the garage in the car when you have riders. Better yet, since they are added weight make them suffer.
was between posting "yawn" or "first time i am hearing this"
Which one u d like more? : )
ps btw the end of this story is always the same, people buy the car
I wouldn't be so sure that you would be able to stay in the garage, maybe get your self a good tent, camping stove, etc., then the budget for the "new, raw" baby would be much bigger. Looks like you just got your skis waxed and the run down that slippery slope will be a fast one!!!! You're in trouble now!
my point is more about driving any car that is setup for track over any car that is not... the differance rather you are into old or new will be one that will haunt you....you are correct....modern are also amazing!
the same type of data is why I often try to shy people away from suspension upgrades that done go very far.... more is better!! (esp when more is not "too much" )
mechanic i work with finishes custom build based on 197x something tub with cut off front, totally custom plastic panels all around and gt1 block twin turboed motor which he says will be tuned with somewhat 620-680 horses and minimal lag. running weight will be about of 2600-2400 if I remembered correctly. $110K project. will be fun to see it when it will be ready.
after getting around this sh$t for some time all i can say - imagination is the only limit when it comes to making those cars, people who have enough budget on their hands can definitely do a lot of fun things. key is to maintain sanity and remember that there are more important priorities than to spend all available cash on never ending upgrades.
I drove a 6GT3 before ever driving a base 996...
Just think how I felt! But I still like mine and feel it has "sufficient" power and handling for my needs.
Koni reds installed in the rear tonight - the pile is growing bigger, not smaller
on deck, front Koni Sport with external adjusters - 23 mm sway away hollow front torsion bars - 30 mm sway away solid rear torsion bars - harder bushings front and rear - homemade bump steer - homemade front torsion bar mount spacers (reduce nose drop on braking) - tires (not picked yet) - alignment / corner balance - maybe a homemade strut brace
not like a 996 list, but its my list
not much to see, most parts get covered up or go inside something else (inserts ect) - dont think there will be much in the way of exterior changes, but driving will be night and day
I drove a 964 with RS components on coil overs with big reds and a hot motor tonight after work... really a hot car, really track ready - funny that I like a few things on mine better like the cable clutch and no power steering, and my seats (even though ugly, very functional)... so many Porsche's so little money and time !
Ok this is a complete diversion and off-topic. But now that you mention cowbell...
My friend and I went to a hockey game last weekend. He brought his cowbell so we can use it when our team scores. Well of course after a few drinks he was really using that cowbell.
After two periods of this, some guy in front of us is frustrated and yells, "Hey buddy, how about LESS cowbell please?!?"
I gotta hand it to the guy, that was pretty damn funny!
I understand what you mean. I had a 73 Targa, and the differences are just too great to describe here. But there is that RAW sportscar feel that only comes from a Teutonic Go-Kart. That, in addition to the smell that is unique to the early cars. And yes it is addictive. I still miss my 73. But when I hop into my Turbo, and punch it, getting pushed back into the seat as I get launched forward. . . . . . . . . The smile returns, and the satisfaction of driving a REAL supercar makes up for it.
Larry
Larry, which one was the REAL ONE
(last I checked I have a vid of my lowly 3.2 wizzing by a 6Turbo down the straight...only cuz he let me by... but still!!!)
Ivangene
I know what you mean. My 73, with a 2.4, was faster on the autocross circuit than many 3.2's. Left a number of owners shaking their heads. We all forget that it isn't just the size or HP of the engine that makes these cars fast, it's the HP to weight ratio. It's hard to beat an early car with a 2.2 or 2.4 if it's only carrying 2,200 or 2,300 pounds.
Larry
Ed,
It seemed not too long ago that you bought your first P then second then...
I understand how you feel. As you may know, I went down a similar road and back... 911T street car...911S race car...911SC track car...Formula Ford...Formula Mazda...Reynard-Mercedes Champcar. Time off for career/family, etc...then now back to 944 Cup car. I have to say...there's no comparison to a proper track vehicle. Having said this, the amount of overall fun is very similar (if not more) when racing wheel-to-wheel with closely setup cars. Racing is racing...and versatility (dual use) has a value.
Whatever it is, enjoy the ride...
PS If I ever take my race car to a track day for testing, I'm willing to let you give it a go for a session.
Ed I want to see a video of you driving and the rapper guy from the car meets doing his thing rapping about porsche drivers. Add running and screaming women and children for miles around running off the streets covering their ears. Dogs putting paws on top of ears, birds scattering and squirls squaking throwing nuts at you. Then a black cat trying to cross the street in front of you with you gunning it into the sunset chasing him then a thump while you are still visible in the distance and add what looks like the fur scattering into the sky then the scene does a transition into night with the same view of your tailights and you two hauling into the distance.
Whatever the case have fun out there. Winter isn't over here. A little rain today and low 70's.
Winter, tell me about it!! Forecast for tonight is cooler weather, temps dropping into the 30's, 1+ inches of snow, lasting into tomorrow, while temperatures try to get back up to 40 deg.
And the boys in village hall, will decide that GEEZ, we need to put salt into those plows and heavily salt the streets, just in case it gets slippery for a few hours.
Leave the Porsche parked in the garage for another week or two. Grrrrrrr.

I've learned. My momma didn't raise no dummies. Now, whenever the weather looks threatening, the Porsche goes back into hibernation, and the Subaru comes out. Oh well. You can only depend on an insurance upgrade once in your life. I have had mine.
