If anyone is in the Los Angeles area and wouldn't mind lending a hand, I would greatly appreciate if I could do a test fit on your car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, I just 3d printed a prototype for a new version of the 996 mk1 headlight covers. This version doesn't have the turn signal cutout, which is a request I have gotten a lot. The covers are attached via silicone glue or double sided tape and would require relocating the existing turn signals to the bumper. If anyone is in the Los Angeles area and wouldn't mind lending a hand, I would greatly appreciate if I could do a test fit on your car. Needs to be a 1999-2001 (mk1) car without the headlight washers. There will be no adhesive used and no damage to the existing lens--I just need to lay it on top of the light to see if it sits flush. Will take 5 minutes max and I'll give a large discount on the covers to any one who offers a hand. I'm not going to mention my business or website here so as not to break forum rules but have attached a pic of the prototype as well as some pics of cars with the prior covers I designed that have the turn signal cutout. Message me at [email removed] or on instagram ID "moderncla6" if interested and thanks in advance for you help. Cheers, Andrew

POST 3Original post

I'm not a fan of covering the lights but in yellow or white it doesn't look bad. Embrace the eggs, be one with the eggs....

POST 4Original post

Whatever happed with the Mk1 body kit thread you started last year?

POST 5Original post

Just sent you an email. I have a '99 w/o headlight washers w/litronics

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. dwdm was nice enough to offer up his car so I am good for now. Regarding the bodykit, I'm still planning on doing it but had to put on hold because I bought a fixer upper of a house that has turned into a moneypit. Will hopefully get back on track later this year.

POST 8Original post

While I love the 996.1 headlights as is and I have no plans change mine, these are the best-looking ones I've seen, especially painted in body color. Good job!

POST 9Original post

Easily the best covers I have seen as well. Amazing skill right there.

Will these newer versions address the short edge on the hood side?

POST 11Original post

I agree that the bezel around the headlight really looks good and elevates these over the other covers I've seen. What about doing something similar with the turn signal opening to make it look more finished out and less like a hole revealing something just sitting underneath?

Just buy the solid set, find a turn signal lens you like and install it flush. 🤷‍♀️
