Its quite expensive doing it that way as the bushing is cheap and can be replaced in the old bracket rather than replacing the whole bracket/bushing assembly).

I'd like to work something out if I can before buying one that I may use once.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Reach out to dporto he had a trans tool that I rented from him and it worked great!
Afaik on the later cars the bushing was mounted to a bracket which you could unbolt and replace as an assembly. Its quite expensive doing it that way as the bushing is cheap and can be replaced in the old bracket rather than replacing the whole bracket/bushing assembly).
You still need the tool though to get that bushing out but it is easier in the later cars as you can work on it mounted on a bench whereas the early cars dont have a removable bracket. The bushing on early cars has to be replaced in place or the transmission dropped. I need the tool to do this as Im not wanting to remove the trans.
Presume you mean you took the bracket to a machine shop to replace the bushing, as Id be very surprised if a machine shop would have the tool or the facility to do it in-situ like mine requires.
The complete transmission mount for my 02 Tip was $249 from Suncoast Porsche. No special tools needed. I ordered it well before finding out the bushings were removable with a special tool. So if the special tool turns into a hassle to get there is the more expensive, but easier option.
@Texsquirrel
Would you be willing to rent it out? Houston is a long ways away from Wisconsin, would be a great road trip though.

Thanks in advance, Greg.
