POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had an extra center console (or two) laying around from an ebay purchase (wanted some back up interior pieces for some custom painting that I was going to do). After having removed the stock console to paint it I got to thinking that there might be room to put a couple of cup holders into the console. So one day I started hacking a console up and this is what I came up with (patent pending). I have enough consoles to make at least 10 more, but wanted to see what kind of interest there is out there for this. It works very well and fits 20oz bottles. Feedback welcome. Thanks Keith

POST 2Original post

Looks awesome! That should be OEM right there. Doesn't look compatible with my 986S, though

POST 3Original post

looks stock !! I bet you will get a couple buyers on here !

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sjfehr, From the research that I've done, the console for Boxsters from '97 to '04 and 911's from '99 to '04 are the same... Thanks for the feedback so far.

POST 5Original post

Great craftsmanship! FYI.....the console for all 986 and 996 cars is the same. The only difference is the coupe has a slightly different rear side panel snap on piece and an extra rear trim piece but the console is identical.

POST 6Original post

How much for one done in stock textured black finish? Looks awesome and would solve the only complaint I have with my interior. Steve

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 6780230

May be so, but I've got a tip and heated seats, so I don't think this would work in my car. I have pop-out cupholders already, but these look perfect, like what Porsche should have done in the first place.

POST 10Original post

YEAH! How much!! Oh, wait, I mean, yeah, that's ok. How much do you want for one in all black?

POST 12Original post

Well done. Would you also make a console with one holder?

POST 13Original post

Very nice. I would likely be interested in one too.

POST 14Original post

I'm interested and would send my console to you. Let me know

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All... First thanks for all of the positive feedback. As far as pricing goes, here's what my thoughts are: It think the standard for painted consoles is close to $400, and I'm offering that plus the integrated cup holders. So I'm looking to get $500, painted any color you want, just send me the paint code. If your willing to send me your old console (as long as it's in decent shape (ie. not cracked or warped), I'll knock off $125 from that. Salayc: It would be no problem to make a console with only one cup holder.. Sjfehr: If you could send me a picture of what your console looks like and could let you know if I would have any issues. As long as the space for the tip gear selector doesn't take up any more room then the manual, I'm pretty sure I can add the two cup holds and provide the 4 window switch locations that you would need (just the space between the two cup holders would be reduced). Thanks Keith

POST 20Original post

Excellent. Did you use fiberglass? Definitely interested. I have a cabriolet, so the rear window switches would be in the same location as the 2nd cup holder. I'd want two holders though, so what thoughts do you have on relocating the second set of switches?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6780784

Yes I used fiberglass to create the cupholder forms. My car is also a cab... Since I rarely use the rear window switches, and my car didn't have heated seats, I elected to just move the switches for the rear windows to the location where the heated seat switches would be. I do think that if I move the cupholders closer together, I can add the second set of switches behind the rear cupholder. I had thoughts of adding a pocket between the two cup holders for a cell phone or I-pod docking station. As far as relocating the rear switches, the factory wires are not long enough, so I made an adapter harness.

POST 22Original post

Looks really nice! Good job! I don't drink or place drinks in my car though.

POST 23Original post

That is beautiful! Would you be painting the one I send you, or would the one I send you be a core that you would rollover to another purchaser? Not that it matters - how long would it take from order to receipt? Rudy

POST 24Original post

BTW, just a friendly comment, I hope you have already taken steps to file a patent application because this offer for sale starts the clock ticking for you to do so. Good luck. And count me in. I like your idea of the phone compartment or the like.

POST 25Original post

Like Cosmos, I don't drink enough in my C4S to warrant the purchase, but your work from the pictures looks very very good; very clean; OEM-like. GL

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I currently have 10 center consoles that I plan to convert to cup holder versions (when I deceided to paint the interior components of my 996, I started looking for some extra parts in case I screwed something up. I lucked out a came across a bunch on interior pieces on ebay (this is part of what led me to mess around with the idea of trying to do this (see blog link below on renntech for the interior mods that I did))). As I receive core console, I'll continue to make more. If the interest is strong enough, I'll have to look into having a mold made. http://www.renntech.org/forums/blog/...p?showentry=98 My patent application was filed this past Friday, so I should be covered as for as protection of intellectual property goes (I had some of the legal guys at work help). As far as timing goes: I take a hobby automotive painting class (which gives me access to 3 paint booths, with full baking capabilities, etc). Class starts up again the first week in September, so between now and then I'll be making up as many as I can. I can take orders for the first 10 consoles now. If your interested in placing an order, let me know how many window switch locations you need and cupholders you'd like (one or two). Please pm me with these details. I'll get the console fabbed up (send you pics in primer, etc), then when it's time for paint, I'll be looking for a firm commitment. My goal would be to be able to start shipping these first 10 consoles by mid September.

POST 27Original post

I'd look at the 997 if I were you, that's probably a more active mod market now. It really does look OEM. Nice job.

POST 28Original post

Well done! It doesn't even look like a mod,...it looks OEM. Nice job!

POST 29Original post

Very cool! My only concern would be shifting with a large coffee right in the way. My arm tends to be right over the console when I reach for 3rd or 5th.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Certainly, if your going to be doing agressive driving, you would not want any drinks in the cupholders (atleast not if the top was open), but for normal cruising and long trips I've found this design to work very well.

POST 31Original post

Very nice, much better CG than over the radio! This should have been the factory setup ..

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 6782076

I too love this idea but can see the intelligence of leaving it out since the shifting arm is right in the way. This is a Porsche afterall and sometimes, no matter how well intentioned our thoughts of not speeding where ever we might be headed, some incident arises that merits a throw down into 2nd and gunning it, and then 3rd, and then, oops, my drink just went all over the place. Can a wet vac be integrated into the back seat area that I hardly ever use?

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 6783358

You have a valid point, my996a It's been a while since I lived in Germany, but I believe the TV didn't allow cup-holders (in the past) for safety reasons. No eating and drinking while driving was the rule. The US market changed all that ..

POST 35Original post

Instead of two smaller cup holders, can you make one very large cup holder? I'm a malt liquor kind of guy, and well, it's tough to find a good cup holder for a 40 oz bottle. I can send you a St. Ides if you need a mold.

POST 37Original post

Fantastic idea!! I have the optional premium sound. So I can't install dash model. I purchased the air vent "mickey mouse" one. I do not like it, so I took it off. It would be great to have a place to put a cup of coffee as your driving down the freeway in the morning! Great work, I think I may have to bite the bullet, and get one too.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6787315

for the right price I can make anything

POST 39Original post

how about one with a big non smoker tray and no cup olders, my current tray doesnt fit much at all, surely i'm not the only one that would rather have a good sized tray to fit phone etc and maybe relocate window switches to where the heated seat switches go

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 6794514

Geeez! Its a Porsche not an F-150!

POST 41Original post

Can I get one that holds one condom - that's all I really need - if I wasnt a porch sitter I suppose I could use 2 ........ oh - and a paddle ball.. I really like those and maybe a pack of that neat new gum that makes you feel like 5000 hair dryers are making you float. thats all well, maybe a pen holder too, but that's it for sure of coarse... if I had a spot for a couple golf tees.... never seem to have enough of those little buggers but that's it!!! OH OH OH - do you think you could make my helmet fit in there... I know it's asking a lot seriously, nice work, looks great - just having a spot of fun

POST 42Original post

Great idea. Looks fantastic! I got pull out holders, but if I didn't, I would get one. Good luck with your projects.

I know this is a very old thread but do you happen to still make these? Im constantly annoyed that I ha e no cup holders in the console and this is the absolute best fix Ive seen.

POST 44Original post

Being 10 years old, I would say no... PM him directly, if he is still active.

POST 45Original post

I hate the tiny cup holders over my radio. My car is in the shop right now. It was wrecked before I even took delivery (long story) but I will want one of these since mine will be a daily.

I have a 2000 996. I am interested in buying one of your cup holder consoles if you have any left. [email removed]

POST 48Original post

I don't think you guys paid attention to how old this thread is ...

POST 49Original post

I’m surprised at my response from 10 years ago. I think they’re hideous. Apparently I thought they looked great 10 years ago.

POST 50Original post

I just came across your post regarding center console, are you still making these? If so very interested let me know if you are....thanks
