Suggestion

If going catless, regular crossover pipes are recommended along with O2 extenders if you're on the earlier ECU's(some are less finicky allowing you to get away with just extenders) or you'll need your ECU reflashed to lower Cat Efficiency check range.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys! I have a cat that is rattling, so now I'm going to do a cat delete on my 911. Looking at different options on the internet and I'm confused by the difference between X-Pipe brands and prices. What justifies $1200+ for one and $600+ for another? Who out there is using an X-Pipe and what are your suggestions? Also My car has the X-51 package on it. If I were to tune the car with a kit, would I actually get more out of it than the 345hp it already has? thank you! -T.J.

POST 2Original post

Or even cheaper, just an option, if you have a tuning shop close by that would "for track only" cut out the cats and put in a test pipe - then put in a plug so your check engine light may not go on all the time. Shouldn't be expensive if you find someone who can do it. [edit] high flow cats are around $150-200 online and "could"/"should" weld in where the old cats were. A shop should be able to help with that and it shouldn't be too expensive. Also you wouldn't have to buy new pipes.

POST 3Original post

Price will depend, I'm sure on the quality of the construction. Check with your state about emissions/inspection requirements if u opt for no cats. A suggestion might be high flow cats with x pipe. Should handle emission. Save some weight and give you awesome sound. When my stock cat failed post federal emission warranty, the high flow cats and x pipe cost the same as one, new Porsche cat. GL

POST 4Original post

$1200 usually has some form of high flow cats inline. $600 ones usually are test pipes with no cat inline. Also you are paying for different quality high flow cats as some are 100 element and some are 200. Even 200 element cats are of differing quality(HJS from Germany being one of the best ones out there for example). Also to note that with X-Pipe, you may lose low end and the "X" configuration in real world really just provides different sound but is really negligible on the hp gains between "X" and regular configuration crossover pipes. You will gain some ponies from high flow cats or cat bypass. Cat bypass on a x51 setup will lose slightly on the low end though.

POST 6Original post

X pipes with out cats. If I am not mistaken your going to loose torque at low rpm around town. Believe you will also have the Check engine light triggered. I tinkered with ioptions when my left cat went out and went with the fabspeed x-pipe cats. Very happy. Great sound but your looking at around $2400 plus installation of about 2.5 hours. Direct perfect fit, good quality. 200 cel cats.

Correct, this has been dyno'd. If going catless, regular crossover pipes are recommended along with O2 extenders if you're on the earlier ECU's(some are less finicky allowing you to get away with just extenders) or you'll need your ECU reflashed to lower Cat Efficiency check range.

POST 8Original post

I have a Fabspeed Cat Bypass that I took off my 996 GT3 - yours for $550 shipped.

POST 9Original post

That's an amazing deal!

POST 10Original post

I purchased a set of Speedtech cat delete pipes when my cats started rattling in Jan. of this year . 2 words... AWE SOME. Both the sound and fabrication quality. With the bung extenders I've never had a CE light come on.

POST 11Original post

I put on a the speedtech x pipe with the 200 cell cats earlier this month, with all new o2's. I haven't had any check engine lights either(no extenders used). Yes it was expensive but worth every penny. My car is a 99 so I don't know if that made any difference about the o2's. Spin out said it best too. AWE SOME.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 12472251

Agreed - sounds like a great deal. I had a cat delete after I discovered they were falling apart inside. Got a center muffler and ECU tune. Dyno showed close to 10% increase in power and torque (the extra torque is the most fun). Oh yea, sound is awesome! Check emission requirements where you are before you delete cats.

POST 13Original post

Will gt3 pipes fit a c2? The low end losses are real but I personally find it negligible. You feel it under 2500rpm and I spend very little time there. There are gains everywhere else. Pretty much the same as cat delete on any car. They are pricey (IMO) because there are multiple bends and welds and the exhaust is packaged pretty tight on 911s. I think test pipes and tune are about the best power gains you'll get from your car. Follow up with before and after Dynos!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As always you guys come through with great advice. Thank you! The torque is one of my favorite things about the car. I've had the car since April, and everyday that I drive it I can't believe that there's only a flat six back there. The car grunts and pulls like the 5.7L I've had in the past. There are no emission checks here in Florida, so I'm good to go on deleting the cats. I've never had a car tuned before. What should I look for or purchase? Is it a chip or dose someone reprogram the ECU?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 12474208

Look for someone, usually an independent shop, that does race prep. They will have access to a dyno and can tune your specific engine. That's the route I took - may be a little more than the cost of a chip. You will probably be happy with it either way. All I can say is that I love the power that my 996 delivers.

POST 16Original post

Ditto. Mines in on an '03 Cab. I have had mine for close to a year. Made a noticeable difference in both performance and sound. Mine is coupled with a FabSpeed MaxFlow exhaust and FabSpeed comp intake. Changes the exhaust tone. Mine actually was bit quieter at low speeds and wot a screaming banshee. Very happy.

POST 17Original post

Thank you to those who have posted their experiences with Fabspeed parts in this thread. As the others have stated, the price difference really comes down to the build quality and perhaps most importantly, the customer support after the initial purchase. I am happy to help all who have specific questions as well as to provide the rennlist member pricing
