Not trying to beat a dead horse but I recently found an extra set of 986/996 headlights for $40 for the pair. I picked them up as spares to retrofit and while looking at the exterior shell, I realized that the amber parts are not amber all the way through. I noticed that the amber actually seems to be a thin layer infused on to the clear plastic, so with that realization I got to sanding. After 5+ hours using a palm sander and 2-3 hours using a DA, I finally finished one of them, haha. Need to finish the other one and I'm waiting on my projectors right now.

To my knowledge amberectomys are taking the 2000+ 996 headlights with a CLEAR external housing and removing the inner amber reflector that's located behind the bulb but within the housing. I'm saying, I took the orange external housing and sanded the orange down and out completely so that it became clear. Two very different "amberectomy's"
