I wanted to smoke test the vacuum system for leaks prior to installing the engine but I haven't been able to find a procedure (where to plug in a smoke machine).

I also use a glove on the throttle body, with the flap open.

I've had my eye on the Stinger from Amazon but I'm also looking for any acceptable less expensive units for the amount of use I'll give it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm just about ready to install my engine after rebuild. I wanted to smoke test the vacuum system for leaks prior to installing the engine but I haven't been able to find a procedure (where to plug in a smoke machine). Can anyone help with a procedure to hook the smoke machine up? 2004 C2. Thanks

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In the event thiis becomes useful to someone else in the future, I ended up using a rubber glove and putting the opening over the intake where the airbox connects with rubber bands and then cutting one of the tips of the fingers off and taping that onto the hose from my smoke machine. Worked great. It actually saved me a lot of time in the future checking this with the engine out as I had one pretty good sized leak at one of the rubber boot connecting to the bank 2 intake. If I would have had the engine in the car and found that leak, I most likely would have had to take the power steering reservoir and the AC compressor out to get access to the clamps holding that rubber coupler on. Well worth the $100 for a amazon smoke machine.

Which machine from Amazon did you use? I've had my eye on the Stinger from Amazon but I'm also looking for any acceptable less expensive units for the amount of use I'll give it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the autoline pro. I think it was $115. Stinger seems to get good reviews as well.

POST 6Original post

Thank you danielcooper9, et al! Very helpful simple solution. Havent smoked a car yet, but this weekend Ill be looking for a pesky, hopefully easy-to-find, leak.
