Reported fix
I replaced the oil pressure sending unit and all is good now.
Leading evidence: 'Replace oil pressure sending unit and all is good now' (1 discussions report resolution; 0 report an unsuccessful attempt). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'really' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). After AOS cleaned intake manifold + plenum from oil.

With all power disconnected (off/off), mine reads well below zero, but then jumps up to close to zero when on/off.

Could it be that after changing AOS and cleaning throttle body and MAF it's still calibrating settings or is there something else that could cause that.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

oil pressure sending unit and that fixed that issue with high oil pressure readings.
Ok, finally my project is nearing completion - one issue though unless something else comes up.
I changed AOS, fuel filter (Porsche), oil (Castrol Edge FST-Ti 0W-40), oil filter (Porsche) and air filter (Porsche). In addition to that changed also front diff oil.
After AOS cleaned intake manifold + plenum from oil. Also cleaned throttle body and MAF sensor. Also pressurised coolant system.
Started engine and at idle the oil pressure is 5+. Thought that 5 is ok(ish) from a cold start so took it for a 20 min easy ride.
At around normal oil temp it's idling around 2.5 but at any speed it goes to above 4. Around 20mph it's about that 4, 40mph around 4.5 and at 60mph it's just below 5 (RPM < 2000)
When idling it fluctuates a bit between about 2.3 and 2.7 - the needle is moving a bit up and down constantly.

No CEL, haven't checked yet if ODB gives any faults.
What should oil pressure read when the ignition is on but engine off. I've seen somewhere that it should be 0 - mine is around 1- which means that the culprit is really that oil pressure sending unit. Just wondering how it could have broken during the AOS etc upgrades because before that (and with different but same type of oil it was working fine).
Should be as close to zero (0) as possible. Something is wrong with yours if it reads 1 at zero (0) RPM. With all power disconnected (off/off), mine reads well below zero, but then jumps up to close to zero when on/off.
P9C,
It could be a strange coincidence. Shortly after buying my car last Feb I changed the oil. Upon start up the oil pressure gauge rose a bit, dropped to 0 and the computer started flashing low oil warnings. There was plenty of oil on the dipstick. I restarted the car and same thing happened. After a few folks here talked me off the ledge I disconnected the two wires going to the sender and cleaned the connections with some sand paper. Plugged the wires back in and everything worked for a day or so. While driving the oil pressure gauge dropped to 0 and the computer starting flashing warnings again. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit and all is good now.
Ok, replaced that
oil pressure sending unit and that fixed that issue with high oil pressure readings.
Cold start 5-, warm idle 1.5 and at 75mph / 2500rpm pressure reading is 4. Didn't test yet pressure at 3000rpm - should be around 5 if I remember correctly.
Got me thinking..... maybe the pressure is now on the low side...?
OMG...you are way over thinking this. You replaced the sender so you are good there. Sounds like everything else is spot on. Suggestion - go drive your car and enjoy it for all that it is. Stop looking and thinking about the oil pressure gauge. Look forward out the windshield and enjoy a drive.
The biggest contributor to oil pressure is the oil temperature. In cooler ambient temps, the oil pressure is highest, because the resistance for the thicker oil to flow is higher. This resistance to flow is what creates oil pressure.
So, comparing oil pressures in different seasons can’t be done..
^^ I agree. Even with a thermostat in the engine to regulate water temps, in the winter, my hot oil pressure is always higher because my coolant temps are also lower. In very cold temps, say -12C outside my hot water temp is closer to 83-86C vs 96-99C in the summer when on the highway. Stuck in traffic is the only way I can get 99C in the cold winter, since theres no airflow across the radiators (before the fans kick on).
