In my case, I replaced the fulll latch on advice of a very reputable indie and it fixed the problem right away for me.

It fitted without any further adjustment required; that is, provided you line up the glass pane correctly in the front of the regulator.

I just replaced my drivers side window regulator with an aftermarket regulator.
Replace passenger side a few weeks ago...very straight forward

Suggestion
I just ordered 16 from my local Porsche dealer and they cost me $11 and change...cheap insurance to make sure you can finish the job in 1 shot (I'm going to be changing my in door speakers out so I want to make sure I have the clips before starting).

Suggestion
A year later though, I had to replace the regulator in the same door for the elongated cable issue (the cable actually broke in the end due to corrosion) that I mention in a previous post.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I believe my passenger side window regulator is starting to fail. Currently, the window goes up and down but it does not auto-seal when the door is open and closed. I've read on RL that
you can adjust the actual window sealing
strength and I may try that before I replace the regulator.
Does anyone have a DIY on how to take apart the door panel to get to the regulator?
This is on a 04 GT3
Thanks in advance!
-Josh
Don't forget to remove the stopper at the bottom of the rails, or the window won't slide all the way down and recess into the door. Not sure why the stoppers are there.
Don't turn the key on and try to test it with the air bag disconnected, or you will get the airbag light on and have to get that reset.
Good luck !
No idea...haven't done that research yet. I don't even know if it is the regulator since the window seems to work fine. It seems it may be one of the micro-switches which are significantly cheaper than the entire regulator.
The issue sounds more like a microswitch to me. Typically when a window regulator fails, the reason is that that cables stretch out with time and use. As a result, when you try to open the door the window motor tries to lower the window to clear the seal, but all it does is take up the slack in the cable and the window doesn't move. If this is the case, then you can generally push the window down a little bit when the door is open.
The symptoms that you describe sound more like the window drops when you open the door, but it doesn't go back up when you close it. Am I understanding that correctly?
Actually, your first description sounds more likely to be the culprit. The window does not move down when you use either the internal or exterior handle. When I try the handle inside the car, I can hear the motor trying to do something but the window doesn't move down. I don't hear anything (motor) when I try the handle from the outside but the window also doesn't move down.
I will try to gently pushing down the window to see if it moves down a little after I open the door. Assuming I can, then its pretty safe to assume that its the window regulator, right?
Thanks
Yes. If you can push the window down then the regulator is probably the issue. It will probably raise back up into the proper closed position when you close the door.
I replaced both window regulators in my 996. The two most important things I remember are:
1. Mark the window glass with tape before you remove it from the mounts. This will allow you to get it back into the proper position when you reassemble everything. If you get it wrong, then properly adjusting the window is a painful process of trial and error.
2. Take your time when disassembling the door panel. This is the hardest part of the procedure, in my opinion. You have to be careful not to scratch the leather on the door and also not to break any of the mounting tabs that hold things together. Take your time and you'll be fine.
I purchased my regulators from
www.suncoastparts.com
when I did mine.
Good luck!
Good points...thanks...so the actual replacement of the regulator is not that hard?
Assuming
this is the correct part
? Looks like the correct part #...
Slightly unrelated and I've heard Suncoast is great but since its shipping from FL, I was wondering if there were any West Coast preferred online stores that sell Porsche Genuine parts?
Thanks again
I sometimes use Sunset Imports in Oregon. They are good too.
That looks like the correct part. It's easy to swap the motor from the old regulator to the new one.
Once the door is apart, the regulator swap is easy.
Gotcha thanks...does Sunset Imports have an online store or do you have to call? I see
this site
but it doesn't look like they have an online store...
Thanks again
I just replaced my drivers side window regulator with an aftermarket regulator. The window will auto rise correctly but will not lower to clear weather trim. The door handle micro switch is working. I can hear it activating the motor slightly moving the window but not lowering it to make it effective to clear trim. When the door is opened I can push the glass down 1/2'' and when I close the door the window rises into the weather trim properly. I've tried all the reset options with no effective result. I was wondering if I have a defective regulator. Any thoughts or advice?
Weissach in Vancouver charged $310 for mine last January.

Take your time, not a bad job at all.
Your issue might be more of door latch issue than a regulator issue.
Regulator issue are mostly due to the steel cable getting elongated over the years of usage and the grease in the regulator mechanism being spent.
Soaringman;
Stuart is the service mgr and Uli ([email removed]) is the parts man, at least then!
They are very helpful.
Once you start factoring in the 1.14 CDN to US dollar ratio, buying this side of the border can make sense.
Good luck!

Dentaworx;
Once you have the door latch removed, there is a microswitch on the latch that might play a role with the problem you are having. Although, I'm not sure if replacing that microswitch only would solve the problem.
In my case, I replaced the fulll latch on advice of a very reputable indie and it fixed the problem right away for me.
A year later though, I had to replace the regulator in the same door for the elongated cable issue (the cable actually broke in the end due to corrosion) that I mention in a previous post. A related but different issue.
Good luck!
"and also not to break any of the mounting tabs that hold things together. Take your time and you'll be fine."
You can order these clips at the same time as your other parts... Part # 999-507-505-40 There are 8 on each door. I just ordered 16 from my local Porsche dealer and they cost me $11 and change...cheap insurance to make sure you can finish the job in 1 shot (I'm going to be changing my in door speakers out so I want to make sure I have the clips before starting). good luck
So picked up my new Porsche brand passenger side window regulator today,
I told the parts girl passenger side , right side .
So I get home , get deep into it and she gave me the wrong side.
Seriously annoying , I'm an 80 $ ferry ride and half a days travel away . Grrrr
Some helpful hints - as said, make sure you mark the window glass so you can put it back in the new regulator exactly where it was. Also make sure you carefully mark the bolt locations on the bottom brackets of the regulator prior to removal. You want those to be in the exact location as well. Makes the job of final alignment so much easier, almost simple if you get it back in the original locations. I also found it helpful to have an extra set of hands to lower the glass back in place while making sure it was in the regulator tabs correctly. One person outside the door lowering the glass and me inside the door to ensure it lowered into the brackets correctly.
Reconnect the airbag and work the window up and down prior to placing the door panel back on. This is to make sure everything works smoothly and your window glass alignment is correct.
im tackling this next so thanks for all the good info provided.
question...what is meant by "mark the window glass"? where do i mark it? in the regulator track?
Once you get the door panel off, mark the window where the old regulator clamps onto it, then when you slide your window back in onto your new regulator you can make sure the clamps go in the same spot
I changed my passenger side a few weeks ago...very straight forward. I bought the Uro Parts one from AutoHausAZ for $130. Works just like the genuine Porsche one that costs over twice as much.
The same regulator is used for Boxsters. Because the Boxster's window travel is shorter than a 911 there is a stop that Boxsters need but if you leave it in there your window will not lower completely into the door. It is much easier to remove the stop before buttoning up the door panel.
