Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I changed my plugs I removed the rear bumper and the mufflers.
Leading evidence: 'Replace plugs i removed the rear bumper and the mufflers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend little more care than i did' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It may have taken me an hour to remove and replace the bumper and mufflers, but I'm sure it saved me more than that when I did the plugs and the tubes.

Although the plugs have to be removed to change the oil tubs, it probably would have made sense for the shop to just put in the new plugs when the oil tube replacement was done?

This would have been a good time to replace the spark plug oil tubes and O-rings.......

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The car is a '99 with 64,000 miles. I recently acquired it and am pretty sure the PO never changed them.
The electrodes on the old ones are definitely worn, but you don't have to gap this type of spark plug.
No all I did was loosen the exhaust tips and swing them down to allow a better sightline. The job would have definitely been easier with a lift, though. The drivers side took me 4 hours, but I'm very meticulous and was slow-going. The passenger side took me under 2 hours.
"The electrodes on the old ones are definitely worn, but you don't have to gap this type of spark plug."
I can see that, and I know you don't have to gap them... My question was (and still is...)
"What did they measure out to and what is spec? How was the car running prior to change? "
Sorry I misunderstood your question. I have no clue as to actual measurements. My eyeballs tell me that there was some wear, but it didn't look like a crazy amount.
I have noticed a huge improvement in smoothness. And the car seems less apt to die if you are less-than-smooth with the clutch.
When I changed my plugs I removed the rear bumper and the mufflers. It may have taken me an hour to remove and replace the bumper and mufflers, but I'm sure it saved me more than that when I did the plugs and the tubes. Plus, it saved a lot of cursing! I had the sense to spray some penetrating oil on the muffler bits the evening before I did the project, so that certainly helped. With that done ahead of time, removing the bumper and mufflers was pretty easy.
I removed my bumper and mulflers as well, but (luckily?) I was also doing several other jobs at the same time. It was a good time to get the mufflers hacked.
Removing the plugs and coils was very straightforward with the cans removed.
Unfortunately I re-installed the rear bumper without an assistant and apparently I flexed the bumper enough to cause some spider-webbing in the paint above one of the exhaust cutouts. sign. If anyone is doing the same I'd recommend a little more care than I did.
I did it without removing the mufflers because I am a sadist and a contortionist. Also those muffler bolts looked to be a real pain to get off given the rust on them. I did the coils and the plugs at the same time so hopefully I wont have to deal with them again for a long while.
The gaps look huge if you compare them to a conventional electrode plug. I had the same reaction when I removed mine but the new ones are barely less. These are essentially 4 spark plugs in one, when one electrode wears down, the next closest to the electrode will come alive and when that one wears down, the next next closest one will start arching and so on. This is a good way to make sure the gap stays pretty constant for a very long time.
This would have been a good time to replace the spark plug oil tubes and O-rings.......
But at least you will know exactly how to get to them when you do need to change them in the future.
Then you are golden!
Although the plugs have to be removed to change the oil tubs, it probably would have made sense for the shop to just put in the new plugs when the oil tube replacement was done?
