Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use a warm bucket and mitt to wash off the salt and dirt and every two weeks, I connect the hose directly to the washer hot water faucet and spry the car with soap / wax, then rinse.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Washed 1999 996 this morning. Also showing the cup holder unit that wedges between the center console and passenger seat. Works well and stays put. New vanity plate as well
My 996 is pastel yellow. This is a rare color for the 99 - 01 years, I am told. The Boxster produced during those same years was more frequently seen in this color. What I like about the pastel yellow is that it gives the 911 a more vintage look. After all, the first year of 911 production in the US carried this exact color as well as several production years of the 356. It reminds me that I am now living my dream of owning a 911 since boyhood ( I am now 58!!)
Bought the car that way. Yes, the front bumper is Aero. No skirts or spoiler, of course. No history as to why. I am the third owner. Rich at R.O.C.S. in NJ serviced it for five years then bought it when the owner wanted to go air cooled. He flipped the car to me. It was well gone over with his own purchase PPI and new clutch, AOS and dual row IMS bearing as well as new ignition, coolant tank and cap. I am learning all I can to care for and protect the engine myself. temp never exceeds 180 deg. and oilr pressure is where it should be.
Nice! Mine's been "stuck" in the garage with road salt all over it since Jan. 29th (I drove it in the Metro PCA Snowflake Rally)
I've been dying to wash it, but since all the snow, I don't want to chance backing it down the very steep/icy driveway (it would be quite easy to slide across the narrow road into the ice bank on the other side...). I've taken the opportunity to get some interior detailing and some other simple maintenance stuff done, but if things don't change pretty soon, I may resort to the "Heated garage two bucket method" myself...
The – unit is the Kenwood dnx 5160The back up camera is a wireless connection unit that operates poorly. In the manner of iPod wireless connectors to a radio unit, the slightest interference will really distort the viewing picture. As a matter of fact, tomorrow I will be taking the car to a reputable Stereo Shop to have a new backup camera installed that is hardwired to the head unit. This should solve the reception problem completely.
Depending on what kind of winter crap I have been driving through, I have two options for keeping the car clean. One is the two bucket method using one warm water bucket for the wash and one warm water bucket for the rinse That works well for the painted surfaces. The other option I use is a hot water connection from the laundry room washer faucet to a hose with the sprayer to wash and rinse off the car if the temperature is about 30. I also connect the back lawn fanning sprinkler and simply slide that under the car in front and in back to rinse off all of the salt that has accumulated there. Seems to work very well and I feel a lot better doing the salt rinse once every couple of weeks if I'm driving the car on treated roads.
To answer the camera question, it is a wireless design that works poorly. There is a small transmitter connected to power from the left tail light assembly. Tomorrow, I am having local stereo shop familiar with Porsches, reinstall a wired back up camera to solve the reception problem.
The question of weather or not to be even driving the 996 in our current weather conditions (horrific!) has been a subject of in-depth discussion on this forum. My view is that they can be driven just like any other two wheel drive car that is used in the winter months. While living in Munich, I saw Porsches being driven all winter there, albeit carefully! Common sense is key here. In any case, I have to keep my car clean, though! I use a warm bucket and mitt to wash off the salt and dirt and every two weeks, I connect the hose directly to the washer hot water faucet and spry the car with soap / wax, then rinse. I also connect the hot water hose to a lawn fanning type sprinkler, slide it under the front and rear of the car while on the driveway. this rinses the salt off the underside VERY well.
I am so spoiled. 32 degrees this morning, up to 55 this afternoon. Wash the car dry and put away. We have yellow pollen from pine trees this month. It is Horrible on a red car.
I have always loved yellow cars, looks like it hides dirt and dust well too. My midnight blue is a pain to keep perfect. My sister came over and ran her finger across the rear quarter panel and made a comment that it was dirty only to leave a nice scratch in the soft paint. I'm thinking its time invest in a dual action polisher.
Come to WI, it's -30f. No way to wash cars here and and all car washes are closed.
I was in SD over New Years with the fam, it was 30-40's...wtf!
The plastic cup holder is a stop gap until I buy the OEM console flush mounted one. I think if I rearrange the order of the video unit, the thermostat and the cup holder, it will fit? I would have to remove the console cubby?
