Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Will I run into problems with dragging the oil pan or scraping the front end?
Leading evidence: 'Run into problems' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust standard suspension components' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

This should be able to be done with adjusting the standard suspension components.

Suggestion
If you are going for coilovers, try setting your height to some of the factory lowered settings first, and see if that is enough.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm thinking about coilovers (Feal), 2004 996 C2, 18" wheels. Looking at about 1" total lowering. No track work, just spirited driving. Will I run into problems with dragging the oil pan or scraping the front end? This should be able to be done with adjusting the standard suspension components. Thanks, David
My shocks are shot at 70,000 miles and I'm trying to update the ride/handling. The current pricing leads you to a lower cost set of coilovers vs cleaning up my existing components..ie. new shocks, bump stops, strut bearings, etc. Olins are out my reach for example.
I'm about 1.5" lower on Bilstein B8s and H&R lowering springs. Ride quality is good, and I don't ground out, but I'm very careful with driveways and speed bumps. I wouldn't go any lower personally.
I went with 6GT3 ride height and alignment with my 04
Euro specs on 6GT3 wheels
A little lower than one inch from stock 996 height on PSS10s
Driveways need to be carefully negotiated and I did add a bash plate OE Porsche, but love the look and ride
I can feel the shocks bottom out over the sharp road seams etc. I'm not sure they are completely shot, but the ride is certainly compromised. I have new suspension bushings, engine and transmission bushings and tires. I do not mind a "firm" ride, but not the harshness. Will probably reduce the height about 1".
I’m 1.5” lower on H&R springs
large speed bumps are sometimes a problem, and you need to be mindful of drive approaches and wheel stops, other than that, I’m very happy with the ride and the stance
More likely your top-mounts are shot/torn than the struts/shocks "bottoming out" (you have to remember there are bump stops in there as well...) - you'll get that rattle clunk on expansion joints. Better check 'em... problem is, you can't see them without removing the strut top nut and washer - even then it's difficult to get a good look at 'em without taking them all the way out... I could tell mine were totally torn/detached until I had them off...then the centers just fell out
That's a strong case for culprit of the month! I will investigate, best as I can. The labor plus the costs may still lead me to coilovers, stay tuned as the world turns.
