Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If the crests are not aligned pointing at the valve stem, run away.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

honest question! Would you buy a Porsche from someone with the center caps not aligned to the valve stems, even if IMS was done and bore scope came back clean?
I dont know why it upsets me but if youre listing your car and taking photos, align the damn center caps, super easy to show you care for the car...
Wow, and I thought the "driving shoes" thread was a waste.
You might make this "requirement" known early on in negotiations so sellers can concentrate on other potential buyers..."yeah, I know you spent $5K on preventive maintenance and we went through an exhaustive PPI, but your center caps..."
Do you by any chance have a f
ifty-three year old non-date Rolex Oyster Perpetual from the Caracas store of Serpico Y Laino?
I do not on the Rolex, and this thread is a waste, but I do find it interesting as an indicator of how much the car was pampered. I don't get turned off when wheel caps aren't aligned, but I will say it's a huge turn on when doing a walk around on the car and the owner points to the wheel center caps being aligned. Just gives you a feel good moment on how the car was treated throughout its life.
On the flip side, you spent $5k in maintenance on the car in the last year, but couldn't spend the two minutes to align the wheel caps? :/
I'll get back to real life now, sorry for wasting your time, also I drive barefoot.
It's not that I couldn't - I just wouldn't. I don't see the point - it doesn't bring me any satisfaction to do so.
I always thought the crests pointing at the stems was a running joke among non-Concours folks...but now that I know it genuinely bothers some people, I'll make an effort to leave them almost-but-not-quite aligned.
You can't waste my time - it's already worthless.
Despite the "honest question" - I genuinely assumed you were trolling. I clearly suck at assumptions.

On a lighter note, my daughter and her husband bought a pristine, 5000 mile, DeLorean yesterday. Total surprise to me. My first thought upon hearing the news was i wonder what Jake at FSI could do with it.
Center cap alignment is important
But key for me is what oil he.she is running and change intervals
If I drop Jakes name and he.she.it draws a blank I move on
My center caps say BBS so what do I know?
I could care less which way the crest points but I
have
been known to get movement when I see the yellow dot on the tire aligned with the valve stem.
I have never aligned my center caps because: no good deed goes unpunished. Ive heard folks mess with them, and then they fall off or dont stay aligned.
Im glad my shoes are getting more play than I intended.
On that note, getting that collection has taken more time and effort than finding and buying my two SY 996s (one is a TTS coupe).
And yeah, the crests are aligned....it takes zero time to do once and then I don't have to listen to non Porsche guys at a C&C ask me why they are all crazy.
But no, I couldn't give a crap what someone else does and I'll happily take 5k in maintenance over straight caps.
I'm more worried about the wheel balance index mark to the valve stem than the crest,, I'm not running a race or servicing my C4 cab in a pit stop, but I want those wheels spinning smooth..
Is this a joke about 996 buyers being picky and nutty? Also does this rule about valve stems apply to aftermarket wheels? I always lined the crest up to the valve stem on Porsche’s. But for aftermarket wheels I don’t. Is that sacrilegious?
I think everyone has failed to note that this is a serious critical matter when purchasing a car. If the crests are not aligned pointing at the valve stem, run away.
My center caps rotate so as to always be pointed to magnetic north, gives me a huge advantage at autocross. Dont be fooled by Chinese knockoffs that point to true north!
I read in Essential Companion that in single-row cars, there's a sequence of button presses for the HVAC unit that will make them point to the nearest flatbed instead of north. Handy feature!
That's why i have center caps without logos on them, That way they are always aligned, or always not. But I don't have to worry about them. Problem solved!
I'm literally lost with what you are asking. There are some duplicates but I don't see how that means I have any less pairs? If you have two identical 996s does that mean you say you own one? In my case duplicates = backup.
