Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im curious how silent the secondary air pump should be when operating. Should you be able to hear it from inside the cabin? It doesnt sound like its failing. But its a noticeable little high speed fan. Thoughts?

Yes you can hear inside the car and normal. Squealing would not be good.

POST 4Original post

Tiny vacume cleaner noise.. Inside the car for just a short time when starting.

2nd. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner running for ~90 seconds on a cold start.

POST 6Original post

Funny you should ask. My original SAI was so quiet I never heard it. Then the bearing started chirping and the dealer replaced it under (extended) warranty and, like everyone writes above, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. This was 8-9 years ago and Ive always wished that the new pump was as silent as the original one.

POST 7Original post

Off topic warning!! @dcsjc the 996 is great and all, but the bugeye is really cool! I had a sprite and a midget back in the day.

POST 8Original post

You'll know when it's bad; it begins to make a very high pitch whining noise. I've disassembled mine and re-lubricated the bearings.

POST 9Original post

The bugeye is really fun! Totally different experience than the other cars. It's fun making the most out of 43 horsepower.

POST 10Original post

Mine is a little louder than the exhaust fan over my stove.
