There were lots of threads on this back in the day and I seem to recall using a soldering iron very near the plastic to heat it and it easily pulled away.

I guess you can use the yellow layer itself as a guide as to how much to take off.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

Stuff like this is my favorite part of cars like this dropping in value. People aren't scared to try new things when they're not $100k cars anymore.

+996. But my fav is still how much peeps obsess and analyze the orange cap mod which is on the other end of the scale. Next up is fabbing up a $800 intake system from a Honduh intake worth $25.

POST 4Original post

So I had a similar idea... Ever notice how sunlight causes colors to fade over time? that got me thinking, maybe a strong light in the form of a correctly tuned Laser could get rid of the Amber.

POST 5Original post

There were lots of threads on this back in the day and I seem to recall using a soldering iron very near the plastic to heat it and it easily pulled away. That sounds a lot less caustic than sanding.

POST 7Original post

If it will respond to heat the better way to apply it more uniformly and accurately would be to grab a wagner heat gun. As for the amber, the entire time I had it till the litronics, every time I admired the front of the 986 I thought of this guy: http://tinyurl.com/kal3bkd

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"Amerectomy" applies to the clear style headlights, not ambers. Use the search function or google for an explanation.

POST 10Original post

Interesting. So how do you build up the thickness to original after you "shave" off 1.25mm?

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The bulk of the lens is 3mm thick. The turn signal portion is 6mm thick. The removal of material will not adversely affect the strength of the lens. 1.25mm will also be easy to taper into the rest of the lens so that it looks like original.

POST 13Original post

I get you particlewave. you are talking about taking a thin (the yellow) layer off the lens itself. Its a great idea. I'm really curious as to how it works out. I guess you can use the yellow layer itself as a guide as to how much to take off. Just keep sanding until all the yellow is gone. If it works you can set up a nice little arbitrage business. Buy Yellow - Sell Clear.

I think you think people care about the amber more than they do.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11318654

I think the prices speak for themselves. Just in case you haven't figured it out yet, headlights are what I do so I know exactly how much people care about the amber. Thanks, though I also think that some people are just overly negative. And, "poof"...it's gone. Sorry... My blood sugar is low and it's making me cranky. I'll go eat something. The pictures and info stay gone, though. I'm keeping this one

Be careful. The last guy who did that on RL got a 2 week vacation. Right KK?

POST 20Original post

I was actually looking forward to the results.

POST 21Original post

particlewave. Anyway I can convince you to email me some pics of the result? I'd really love to see them. Really cool idea.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, I can get a little cranky when I'm hungry. Sorry guys Finished product. 63 minutes for 1 lens, start to finish. Follow the link for details http://986forum.com/forums/general-d...e-ambered.html

+996. I suspect there's gonna be a lot more people hanging onto their amber lights now. Now see if you can do the rears. Lol

POST 25Original post

Now that you're done having your hissy fit, can you put the original pics back up now?

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't know...you didn't ask very nicely Yeah, I'll work on it. Added some back to the original posts

Thanks buddy! Are the headlights holding up ok? They look fantastic! Hehe... I've been buying up old taillights, wink - wink

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 11468349

The headlights are outstanding ... I love the look, the workmanship is top-notch and as to the performance: We were coming home from dinner a while back. Got to a fairly dark area of the country road that leads to the small town where I live. Hit the high beams. Wife said, "Wow." Not "why the @&$#%*! did you think you needed new headlights?" Just "Wow." And her car has xenon headlights, so she understands just how good these are. They look great, they work great, AND they got the Wifely Seal of Approval. In my book, that is as good as it gets :-)

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Haha! That's great I'm always looking for a good excuse to flip the highbeams on If you ever do have any issues, don't hesitate to contact me.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 11469337

I have an LED light bar on my truck, and that is pretty much everyone's reaction when I fire it up on a dark road.

POST 31Original post

Wow! They look great. Are you sure that they won't cause your Porsche to burst into flames? (joking).

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 11470811

No, that would be, "OMG my @&$#%*! eyes! Who is that crazy @&$#%*! with that @&$#%*! light bar?"

POST 33Original post

That clear looks so much better. That amber really bothers me as well. I have removed it from multiple cars.
