Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My PCCM+ arrives tomorrow, and I'm having it installed by Al & Eds on La Cienega on Saturday.
Leading evidence: 'Install by al & eds' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cheapest option' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean 4s' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Probably the cheapest option that most muffler shops should be able to handle.

Suggestion
Fitment was quite good but I would recommend using OEM hardware.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone. After searching for months for my dream 993, I gave up and pulled the trigger on something that I wouldn't be afraid to actually drive.
Today my new (to me) 2004 996 C4S arrived all the way from Texas. I drove up to Angeles Crest and around town for a few hours and it was a blast. I havent driven stick in over 10 years - and the contrast between this 996 and my Tesla Model Y is staggering. Even though the Tesla Y is faster lol. I'm new to modding Porsches. This is my first Porshce, but I used to have a highly modded M3, RS4, Evo IX, etc.
I'd like to make this car tasteful, fun, something wildly different to anything my Tesla offers, and something I could take to the track a few times a year. What kind of mods should I be looking into? I'd love to go all out on handling, but probably can't drop it much more due to the angle my garage sits. Would love more oversteer...
I've got to find a shop for my Porsche needs that isn't going to be outrageous. Any suggestions?
Here is what I've ordered so far:
-
Schnell Short Shift Kit ($165)
-Ashtray replacement
Heres what I'm thinking
ASAP
:
-PCCM+ (with wireless dongle)
OR
-Pioneer 4600NEX
Heres what I know nothing about and would love input on
-Exhaust, what are some of the best options here that arent out of this world expensive...
-IPD Plenum Throttle Bodies? A friend said 'you need these'.
-Anything else to get that engine sound up? I read the K&N filter actually reduces power.
-Sways?
-Struts?
Open to any and all input. This is a new world for me! Thank you!
Very clean 4S! In regards to exhaust, the below thread has sound clips of a good majority of what's offered. A lot of people opt to have Fister mod done and are really happy with the results. Probably the cheapest option that most muffler shops should be able to handle. Bolt on mufflers are generally $1,000+. I have Billy Boat and it's a million times better sounding than stock.

Sweet car, congrats. I havent heard that the k&n filter reduces powerI believe it is the full k&n air intake system that reduces power compared to the stock airbox. Based on some YouTube video.
I have Tubi mufflers on my C2, I love it. Sounds great when you get on it, and sounds stock with light throttle.
good luck with the car!
Beautiful ride. You're gonna love it! I too purchased a 2004 C4S earlier this year - my first Porsche ever! Still grinning several months later from ear to ear!
Haven't thought about these mods that you are mentioning at all other than shifter and exhaust. Only thing I've done so far is put the PCCM+ Apple Carplay head unit in, and get a lifetime ceramic pro coating done.
I've been told that the Fister exhaust mod is a good/tasteful way to get a throatier exhaust note from the car without it sounding "obnoxious".
Short shift kit seems like a no brainer. I've held off on pulling the trigger on it for a bit because I want to get used to what the stock shifter felt like first before upgrading - kinda like sex...can't have the good kind without knowing what the bad kind feels like!!
Do you want the engine sound up inside the car or outside the car? If inside the car, Fister's probably won't be your choice as far as what I have read. You may want to look into a muffler delete bypass if you want to remove some rear weight and make it super loud.
It will make it absurdly loud. Weight savings means nothing for most, even if you're on the track, considering weekend racers are only racing themselves. Drove mine for 5 miles with Agency Power muffler delete and honestly hated every second, wasn't pleasant in the cabin or for those around. Returned the next day.
Nice exhaust IMO is worth spending a little extra for a 996. May not deliver more power, but delivers smiles hitting the accelerator. Fister is second if not wanting to spend that much.
Does anyone have the install instructions for the PCCM+ on my non-bose, single-din setup (as seen in the image below)? I'm mainly wondering if the link here comes with
everything

Still trying to figure out which shop to go to for exhaust and other goodies here in LA. Thinking between Koncept Motorwurkz, Redline Automotive, or Pacific German(this one is WAY down south and quite a drive, but rave reviews).
First of all, you are going to love the C4S, I have had my 2003 for some time now, and love it. Just going to start some mods and improvements...starting with a lift in my garage! Too old now for what I used to do in my youth, jacks and jack stands and rollers or just laying on the cold floor.
Now, something I have been meaning to ask for some time to the collective knowledge of this forum...why does my C4S not have that section between the dash and the tunnel? I do have the Bose system, is that the difference? This really limits options related to PCCM and things similar, as I cannot move the HVAC controls anywhere. Also just found out that I cannot put in most aftermarket tower braces due to the Bose, probably the CD unit in the frunk?
One more thing, could I ask you to post a picture of the frunk under the shelf? How are the tools and jack stored in yours? Mine was missing and I just got some off of Ebay, and would like to replicate if possible.
Was trying to respond to ScottBs comment lol.
what I meant was that if hes missing the lower console that probably means someone must have done the below mod to his C4S:
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/gt3console.html
its a slicker look that emulates the interior of the 996 GT3.
The Top Gear mufflers from eBay aren't bad for the price. I replaced mine with them because the stock ones were starting to crumble at the seams and I didn't want to spend $1000+ on mufflers. There is a small amount of drone with the 'loud' versions but it's livable it will be better than muffler bypass and it gets loud when you get on it. Fitment was quite good but I would recommend using OEM hardware.
