The mechanic who did the PPI said it was the "worst car he's ever done a PPI on" - everything was either broken or needed service (literally, everything).

Don't bother paying a broker to do it - it's so simple a caveman could do it, but there is a little running around involved.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After a full summer of searching, I found my first Porsche!
Well, I'm not going to say that it wasn't a lot of work - because it was - but the end result is worth it! I live up in Canada, and with the strength of our dollar and selection in the states (not to mention the weak economy), I knew that I was going to import from south of the border. Like they say, though, it's the journey and not the destination. I had lots of false starts and bad leads along the way, and just about gave up several times.
The first Porsche I pursued was located in Washington state. It was an early 997, but had unusual and unexplained accident issues, and "phantom liens". Despite the vendor being a straight up guy (he was selling for his friend, never a great situation), the due diligence on that one told me to walk away.
The next one was a 2005 Turbo S in San Francisco. Nice car, had everything I wanted (probably too much in retrospect). I sent it in for a PPI at the dealer, which came back perfect. Unknown to me, the dealer also gave the vendor a copy of the PPI - which convinced him he should raise his price by $10,000! Walked away from that one, you can't trust someone like that.
Next was a 993 in BC, Canada. Guy described it as "perfect", "needs nothing", and was willing to drive it to me in Calgary. The mechanic who did the PPI said it was the "worst car he's ever done a PPI on" - everything was either broken or needed service (literally, everything).
Finally, I came across my C4S. It was located at a dealer in Arizona. Meridian Metallic paint and graphite gray interior, with lots of upgrades, including carbon fiber trim. Passed both inspections (dealer and independent) with flying colors (biggest thing noted on the PPI was some broken taillight tabs - which I've already fixed). Mechanical in perfect condition - interior a 9 out of 10. One critical upgrade for me was that the prior owner had just completely upgraded the audio system and head unit, to a Pioneer Avic Z3 with huge amp, subwoofer, new speakers in stock enclosures, GPS, hard drive, bluetooth, XM, iPod connection, plays DVDs, etc. etc. - very professionally installed too, would probably have cost me $5,000 to do it up here.
Anyway, did all the customs work myself - easy. Don't bother paying a broker to do it - it's so simple a caveman could do it, but there is a little running around involved. I did the RIV and the out of province test yesterday, passed both right away, no problems, and I am now officially plated...
It was worth it! With everything included (transport, duty, GST, RIV), saved 35% over comparable Carrera 4S vehicles listed for sale in my city! No kidding.
Congratulations from a local guy. It's funny, my path was totally different as I found what I was looking for in a week. Do you plan on driving it through the winter. That car would be awesome with a set of winter tires.
Congratulations!
I like that color a lot. To find one with stereo upgrades that you would liked to have done anyway is a big bonus on top of finding a really clean and well-maintained car.
Now either cut that tree down or post some more pics! (And post some pics of the Avic installed too, as I would like to put one in mine someday)
Congrats on your car!
In the situation above, the "I'm selling for my friend" is the kiss of death since they always have the plausible deniability of "well, it's not my car and therefore, I'm not responsible." You were very smart to walk away.
In the second situation above, the same happened to me and I threatened lawsuit and made the offending PPI place refund my money.
Wow, I hope dude in San Fran gets what's coming to him. What a dick. PPI dude screwed you over too, why would he send to the dealer? That's a service he provided for YOU, not ya'll.
She looks great. Enjoy her...
